Greetings!

This year has been incredibly full of blessings at the Newman Center.  As I spend more time with the students in my second year here, they continue to impress me in their depth of faith and willingness to be bold and share their faith with their peers.  And the campus is thirsting for the Light which these students carry each day!

Take a moment to remember what it was like to be a college-aged young adult.  You may remember times of stress, changing peer groups, pressure to succeed in classes, a desire to be at the top of your field.  You may also recall specific people or communities that stood out and helped to form you into the person you are today.  Not necessarily those who advanced your career, but those who taught you what it means to love, to show compassion, to truly see others in this world.  Those who shared Christ with you.

Think about who that was for you.  Was it Bettie?  Fr. Bill?  Chris?  Or one of your friends?  Or professors?  Or a staff member?  Who was it that made Christ's love real for you?

Our mission at the Newman Center is to create a space where our students learn to place Christ at the center of all they do.  We provide a home where our students can meet and become those people that positively impact the lives of others, growing into young adults who value the dignity of all people and boldly share Christ’s love.

Our society, particularly on a college campus, often champions the “me” culture – what is in it for me?  How can I get more out of this world?  Our faith, however, tells us that there is much more.  We are called to love in the way that Christ loves us.

As the Advent season begins, we await the coming of our Lord.  We wish to send a message of Christ’s love and acceptance to our campus community – will you join us in this mission?

Your prayers and support have helped us to be a faith home for our college students.  We are so grateful for your support – our extended Newman community – for helping to make Christ's light real on campus.

Your gift allows our staff and student leaders to maintain and grow our faith filled community.  We hope to reach all of those individuals who feel lost or unloved and show them Christ’s light.  Your gift is extremely important because it allows us to continue to minister to our students today.

As the year draws to an end, we invite you to make a gift to the Newman Center.  Your contribution is critical to our mission of sharing Christ’s love on campus and to our students.

Thank you for your support.  Know that you and your family are in our prayers.

Peace in Christ,
Fr. Colin Franklin
Newman Center Chaplain
