                                                      Shifting...

Good morning dear reader & welcome to my world for another week. I do not miss many weeks where I post an article, & here I am a day late... Regretfully last weekend I moved house, my dear lady was in Japan seeing our new grandson & Friday was a 19 hour day. Sitting down & writing during this weekend was last thing on my mind. Other than perhaps thinking of sharing with you this week…

Moving can be one of the most stressful events we go through & we all have our stories - some make us laugh because they are so unbelievable, some because of pure comedy value & some where we have to laugh else we will cry. If you need reassuring everything will be alright in the end when moving house then this a brief overview of my last weekend.

So, why did we decide to move house. Mrs Butler initially started looking at houses because “I do not want to spend another winter in our amazing 90 year old villa way too big for us now…”, & the maintenance was getting to her. Response & objection to the first comment was I thought we had a lovely warm home with log burner in one lounge & gas fire in another. To be fair, given she did most of the maintenance, most of my comments to the second point were taken subjectively. From then the weekly Real Estate periodicals become regularly found everywhere around the house…

She also wanted to move house because we had lived in our old home for 19 years, despite my thinking it was going to be our ‘forever home’, I began to be encouraged, perhaps, we were ready for a change. This proved to be really hard, mainly finding a house with the dynamics in the current market & enough space for a home office.  We came close once or twice but I just did not want to live in such specific environment.

So we kept looking…. for 18 months. Because we could not find anything suitable, we broadened our search to surrounding suburbs. Eventually, as I suspect happens for most people the ‘right one’ appears & to cut a very long story short we found a house, not as close to the city, in fact it takes longer to go to office than where we use to live, but it is OK! And a beautiful & pleasant drive ~ so far after a week.

And whilst I did not really want to go but went anyway, well… it is close to perfect for us, it requires a few little changes made, but we can both see ourselves living in it.  Then the frantic week begins… I will share about this in another post, perhaps next year.

Finally for this week, it would be remiss of me not to record some acknowledgement of exceptional & perhaps not so good service experienced. I have been a member of a BNI chapter now for close to 10 years & passionately support the philosophy & vision of “Givers Gain…”

So, thankQ to my colleagues & friends; Shelley Carppe @ Mike Vero, Tracy Merry @ Hills Cleaning, Pauline Scott @ C&F Legal, Sean Doggett @ Computer Troubleshooters & Chris Olds @ Pro Switch Electrical. Superb efforts all round & I could not, would not have done without you all. In addition, mention must go to my Milkman, Trevor Nicholls who also delivers our newspaper ~ splendid, seamless effort & something the Telcos could learn from ~ who shall remain nameless; I have been there before with commentaries on just the most appalling service & probably do not need venture again today.

Thank you for taking the time to be with me once again, & I hope my journey may encourage you also. I am aware many of my subscribers will be working through over Christmas & New Year, so I will be here again too. For everyone else off on well-deserved holidays, may all blessings go with you for a happy Christmas & safe holiday period. Until sometime next week, this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson, with my best wishes & too you all, a splendid Christmas week.
