The University of Hawai‘i Presents Jamie Adkins in Circus Incognitus
Windward Community College • Paliku Theatre Sunday, January 22, 2017 • 7:30pm
Jamie Adkins, the eclectic clown, juggler, balancing artist, poet, and the unforgettable one-man circus comedy stars in the “seamless and impressive” Circus Incognitus (New York Times).
Circus Incognitus
A huge success since its debut in 2008, Circus Incognitus has been called "a gem of fresh burlesque" by Le Monde. With more than 1000 performances in 22 countries, Adkins has “actually fulfilled the promise of ringleaders everywhere,” creating a show for all ages (New York Sun). Playing the vulnerable everyman, he wanders onto stage with his new show in a box, delighted to find the audience already waiting. In an hour of intricately choreographed mayhem in the tradition of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, Adkins mounts a disintegrating ladder, negotiates a precarious slack wire, juggles almost everything. The audience is invited to join in the fun, tossing oranges for Jamie to catch on a fork held between his teeth!
Through a series of impossible and uproarious adventures, the celebrated clown-acrobat-juggler-illusionist-tightrope-walker attempts to win the audience over in this one-man show where tenderness and irresistible humour meet.
Jamie Adkins
An expert at comedy born of desperation, Adkins "frees a pure and profound laugh that gives you wings" (Le Monde). A former member of Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Éloize and master of tying together exceptional innovation and poetry, Adkins’ style is “brilliantly simple” (The Stage).
