The Peoria Park District’s RiverPlex Recreation and Wellness Center and OSF Wellness Services are partnering for the RiverPlex Reset. Lose weight and get on track with this all-inclusive program, in which teams of six to eight individuals compete with each other to lose weight and body fat. Each team will have two personal trainers training them twice a week, in addition to nutrition sessions led by a licensed OSF dietitian. The program begins January 21st with an orientation and kick-off event; competition and training starts the week of January 23rd and ends on April 18th. Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) is offering its "Home for the Holidays" pet adoption promotion. New owners of eligible pets adopted December 16 - 22 can give a $25 donation to the Peoria Humane Society and have Santa or one of Santa's elves personally deliver the puppy or kitten "gift" to its new home on Christmas Eve. Pets must be given to members of the same household. PCAPS is also offering gift certificates for a cat, dog or small animal adoption. ArtsPartners of Central Illinois announced that Sculpture Walk Peoria is accepting outdoor sculpture exhibition submissions for next year. The annual outdoor exhibit offers local, regional, national and international sculptors the opportunity to showcase and sell their creations, while enhancing Peoria’s cultural environment and providing opportunities to educate the public. The 2016 walk featured 15 new sculptures, plus one held over from 2015. Next year’s goal is for 17 sculptures to be installed in June 2017. Those interested in submitting a sculpture for consideration should visit callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=3926 and submit entries before the January 20th deadline. 
The American Red Cross Serving Central Illinois is currently seeking nominations for the 2017 Heartland Hero awards, honoring those who exemplify the Red Cross mission by helping people in need. Nominations may be submitted for a specific heroic action, such as providing lifesaving CPR, or for ongoing dedication to the betterment of the community. Nominations are being accepted for Youth Hero, Armed Forces & Public Service Hero, Michel A. McCord Good Citizen Hero, Tiffany Circle Humanitarian Hero and Anne Fox Lifesaving Hero. The nomination deadline is January 15th. Nominations may be submitted at redcross.org/heartlandheroes, or by calling (309) 258-4920 to request a form.

Friday, December 16th thru Sunday, December 18th @ Five Points Washington
The Peoria Area Civic Chorale presents an uplifting mix of hymns, carols and secular songs of the season at An American Family Christmas, at 7:30pm Friday and Saturday and 3pm on Sunday. Special guests include the Peoria Area Civic Chorale Youth Chorus, two Children’s Festival Choirs (Friday night), professional mezzo-soprano soloist Kate Tombaugh, plus Rudolph, Frosty and Santa. Saturday, December 17th & Sunday, December 18th @ PNC Winterfest
Santa visits the PNC Winterfest, with breakfast served at 8:30am prior to his arrival at 9am. Seventy-five seats are available each day, there will be two hours of private skating, and every child will receive a small gift. Hosted by the Peoria Civic Center and PNC Bank, PNC Winterfest is in its second year and runs through January 15th, featuring a real ice rink and 100-foot-long ice slide. Sunday, December 18th @ Flanagan House / Pettengill-Morron House
Enjoy the beautifully decorated historic homes of the Peoria Historical Society from 1 to 4pm. Flanagan House (942 NE Glen Oak) is decorated in a 1940s theme, harkening back to the days of WWII, while Pettengill-Morron House (1212 W Moss) is celebrating a French Christmas this season. Trained docents will offer guided tours at both homes, and the Butler’s Pantry Vintage Gift Shoppe will offer vintage items at reasonable prices. Monday, December 19th @ Two25 Restaurant
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Peoria County invites the public to attend an informational meeting from 5:30 to 6:30pm for anyone interested in becoming a CASA volunteer. The next training class will take place from January 7th to January 16th. Volunteers work with the court system and the Department of Children and Family Services to ensure all necessary information is presented to the court to allow the judge to make the best decision possible.
