Families and Teams

Many Teams Are Planning to Visit

We're excited to be welcoming visitors and teams this year. It's a good break from my routine schedule, and a reminder of how we can reflect the reality of heaven cross-culturally. Most teams come in church or ministry groups, but some, like the HelpLive teams above, consist of individuals. So if you're interested please let me know or sign up by May 1. You're responsible for your own international air tickets but HL provides the rest. The cost is $800 for the India trip, $1,500 for the Thailand trip and also a special $1,500 for the India-Thailand combo trip. I will stop taking new requests for team this summer.

The Sri Lankan family is still waiting for 3 more sponsors in Canada; Canada may have a friendly image in welcoming refugees but it's still nearly impossible for most refugees to go there. Thank you to the one family that donated so they could pay rent and eat for over a month more. They still need help, so I've had the husband over to fix things around my home and also plan to take visitors there for some good Sri Lankan meals. My first interaction with refugees was with the wife's family about 8 years ago, when Dwight Turner took me there.

SBT Online English conversations with children in Mango House are going very well. Jon Jon kept in touch with us and coordinated a team of volunteers to FB chat and have come up with experience based guidelines such as, "Use of 2-screen experience with video & messaging to type out difficult words." SBT is showing that short term trips don't have to end in this internet age but we can keep in touch with the locals here and find ways to serve them. I've been inspired by them to engage in more online activities with my Thai friends as well!

The reality of heaven is something we talk about today in the sense where we practice kingdom values on earth. But we should also remember that our eternal destiny shapes our earthly goals and activities. This is the perspective I want to embrace as I go about my daily routines and set goals for the future, in my ministry and also for my family and friends. The Great Commission is easily compromised when we lose focus on the reality of heaven. Please pray for us missionaries, that we will keep this focus to help each other to make disciples.

General Updates

  • I'm looking forward to working with an old friend from seminary who's planning to move to Bangkok next month. Phil was like an uncle to Lydia when he lived with us for six months when she was around one.
  • New website coming soon, thanks to Joe and Christ Covenant Church in MD!
  • Insightful article, 20 misconceptions about missionaries.
  • Let me know if you want to make a donation for the Sri Lankan family.
  • Consider making a financial donation to Global HopeHelpLive or InSearchofSanuk. HL India needs to raise $20,000 for a cafe to serve as a ministry base in Nagaland.
  • I set up a secret FB page for us, but you have to give me your email address for me to add you; I started making some posts.

Please Pray that

  1. God will help us to demonstrate the reality of heaven in our goals and daily activities.
  2. Visitors and teams will have a blessed time of learning and serving this year.
  3. Our daughter will continue to grow strong in God in her first year in college.
