From the Desk of Gail Baerecke
- General Manager

As the Christmas and holiday festivities get into full swing, we remind ourselves that it is also the season of giving. With the recent Black Friday shopping frenzy, may I appeal to you to consider redirecting some of your savings on purchases made to our Season of Giving Appeal? Going into the Christmas week, this will make the world of difference to our brave young men who have sustained serious rugby injuries. Please see the details of this in the following newsletter.

Year-end has been a busy few weeks with the Charles Glass Society in Newlands extending a generous donation to the Fund again this year, plus our final trustees meeting hosted by Delaire Graff Estate in Stellenbosch. The latter heralded a well-earned farewell to long standing trustee and friend Doc Ismail Jakoet, who will step down after more than 25 years’ service with the Players' Fund.

We welcomed twin boy’s into the Fund family in October and wish parents Anton and Stacey Engelbrecht all the very best as they navigate double parenting joys and challenges. In early January, we also look forward to a second Gardner baby to herald its arrival. Tori will start her 4 month maternity leave next week and shall return in May 2017.

Our office will be closing midday on Friday 23 December and will reopen Wednesday 4th January for limited hours till 1pm and then back in full swing from Wednesday 11th January.

For those who will be celebrating Christmas, may it be a blessed one, if you are on the roads, please be safe and happy holidays.

Till 2017, best wishes.

Trustee of the Players' Fund - John Smit appeals to all those who have ever player or supported rugby to consider donating to the organisation which plays the role of Rugby's Caring Hands in South Africa by supporting those seriously injured on the field.
