LCC Update - January 2017

A message from Dan:

LCC family! I hope you had an amazing Christmas celebrating the birth of the King! Jesus has forever changed our lives, purpose, and destiny. Salvation is here!

We are now only days away from 2017. We’re anticipating big things ahead for LCC as we follow Jesus TOGETHER. It all starts this Sunday, January 1. As part of the service we’ll have some refreshments, worship, take communion, talk about “real change”, and pray over our future staff. Then, on January 8, we’ll kick off this new road ahead with a series called, “Because It’s Worth It”. In this series, we’ll examine seven values that should define us as a church. I’ll be sharing that day on the first of those values – personal authenticity.

During this series you’ll have the chance to:

  1. Hear some amazing stories from LCCers
  2. Support and pray for those taking risks to further the gospel in town and out of the country
  3. Come TOGETHER to experience the big game and serve the people of Honduras

It’s going to be a memorable season ahead. We’d like to invite you to pray and champion three goals we’re focusing on. First, we want to be as unified as we can be as a church. Our cell groups are at the heart of that, as we love each other from week to week – living life together. Second, we want everyone to be active in serving the King. Third, we want to be a church that reaches the lost. Three goals:

LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
BE ACTIVE.
BE MISSIONAL.

Let’s do these TOGETHER with passion.
For the King!

Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.

Get to know Brett Muschott

Brett has joined LCC as our new part-time Worship Director. We sat down with him and asked a few questions you've been dying to know answers to:

LCC Update: Tell us a little about growing up.
I was born in Dearborn, MI in September of 1993, but have lived in the Columbus area since the summer of 2000. I grew up in a household where God, family and friends were valued above everything else. I have always had a great relationship with my parents which I am extremely grateful for. Being in a christian school from 1st grade till I graduated high school, along with attending Cedarville University for 4 years has greatly impacted who I am, and what I believe.

LCC Update: What has been your path leading up to being a worship director?
My interest in music and theatre all throughout middle school and high school sparked an interest in the worship scene, specifically in music. Having the privilege of leading worship at my high school, youth group, and church my Senior year helped me grow and mature in the scriptures at a very important time in my life. Travelling with HeartSong, a group of worship teams from Cedarville, for four years has also impacted me tremendously in my view of worship.

LCC Update: Was there an "Aha!" moment when you realized what you wanted to do?
Even though I am currently employed by LCC as the Worship Director, I recently completed my degree in Early-Childhood Education. I started as a worship major at Cedarville because it felt like the most logical thing for me to do. As I progressed through the first year in my major, I strongly felt called into teaching. I knew that no matter what my vocation was, God would faithfully provide a church that I could impact with my musical abilities and servant's heart.

LCC Update: What is a unique hobby you have that few people might know?
Since I'm already hired, I guess it is safe to say that I am a nerd and have a passion for video games. I traveled to many camps in my time spent on HeartSong, and met a wide variety of high school and middle school students. In my times hanging out with them, I found it amazing how God used my knowledge and passion of video games to connect with many students who had trouble connecting with anyone else. I can think of many friendships and salvation conversations that would not have been possible if I had not been able to connect with the student(s) through a common interest in video games.

LCC Update: What's your favorite part of worship?
If I had to narrow it down to one part, I would have to say the moments when I feel the Spirit moving through the whole church body. Not only in myself, but in the other members of the band, the tech team, and the entire congregation. As opposed to popular opinion, God doesn't need people like me to proclaim His glory. It is only through the work of the Holy Spirit that God can truly touch our hearts, and I am thankful for those times when that is most evident while we worship Him through song.

LCC Update: What does a typical day look like for you?
Since I just finished my degree in education, I am either working at the church, or substitute teaching at a local school in Grove City.

LCC Update: What music are you currently listening to and loving?
I am currently mostly listening to alternative music at the moment. Some bands found in my "heavy rotation" category on Apple music include: Death Cab for Cutie, Walk the Moon, Muse, Oasis, Radiohead, and Colony House.

LCC Update: You're trapped on a desert island and can only take one possession with you. What would it be?
Probably my fan. I can't sleep without it.

LCC Update: What's your most embarrassing moment?
When I was five, I fell into a fountain at the mall. Even my mom laughed at me. Since then, I have an irrational fear of mall fountains and feel slightly nauseous at the sight of running water.

LCC Update: You've got an evening free to yourself. What would you do?
Spend time with my closest friends.

LCC Update: Favorite place to eat?
Any place that serves fresh hibachi. I. Love. Hibachi. Chicken.

What is the Living Room? It’s a place where you can begin to experience some of the benefits of living in community. Come live life together with others and understand more fully how the story of Christ and the Gospel gives us hope to live more fully. In the Living Room there is permission to share as little or as much about yourself as you are comfortable. We think this is a great place to connect and grow. The Living Room is on Sunday nights starting on January 15, 6:00 p.m., at Life Community. Childcare will be available.
