The New Year is a natural time to assess what is and to dream about what could be. Envisioning those future possibilities is the foundation of higher education. It’s a great privilege to award Affordable Learning Exchange (ALX) grants and partner with Business and Finance to award Tech Hub grants that enable faculty and students to explore and innovate, while events like Science Olympiad and CoolTechGirls inspire the next generation of pioneers. I’m looking forward to our future as we work on ambitious plans set forth for us this year to help you achieve your goals.

Diversity and Inclusion

Building a Diverse IT Team

Ohio State’s technology groups are committed to an inclusive workplace. We recently launched a three-phase plan to successfully attract, hire and retain a diverse team of highly-talented IT professionals in support of Ohio State's 2020 Vision.

Winter Break Improvements

Creating Better Classroom Experiences

While classrooms are void of students during winter break, they are far from empty. ODEE’s Learning Environments team has updated 12 rooms for the spring semester and deployed nearly 60 new computers across campus. With more than 360 classrooms supported across campus, breaks are critical times for this team to make changes.

2017 Ohio Science Olympiad

Call for Volunteers

Ohio Science Olympiad boosts the interest of middle and high school students in STEM fields through active, hands-on participation. ODEE manages and hosts the annual Ohio Science Olympiad state tournament, which will be held on Saturday, April 1. We are calling on YOU to help us make this event a success for the bright minds coming to campus this spring. Learn more about the event and sign up to volunteer with us in April!

CarmenCanvas Improvements

Customer Feedback Incorporated

When we set out to improve our CarmenCanvas support resources for spring 2017, we gathered feedback from the users as a first step. We asked instructors questions about awareness of our support service offerings, effectiveness of these services and what new services would be helpful. Based on the feedback received, OCIO and ODEE are working together to improve our support resources for the Canvas LMS in time for the start of spring semester.

CoolTechGirls

Enterprise Security Guides Future IT Pros

In its continuing efforts to cultivate the cybersecurity professionals of the future, Enterprise Security hosted CoolTechGirls’ “Think Like a Hacker” event with several area businesses in early December. After a short lesson in cybersecurity, participants used their newly-gained knowledge to tackle a problem similar to one that a security professional might need to solve in real life.
