Happy Christmas from WBC

Dear <<Salutation>>,

Seasonal greetings to all WBC members,

Merry Christmas to one and all.

As we draw towards the close of another year of fabulous sports and social activity at our club, I thought to spread a little seasonal cheer...

When we think back, we can all remember days when we have enjoyed some marvellous moments during the last 12 months: some on a national stage, and some on a much smaller scale, but no less important for that. I would like to hail all our champions and heroes, and hope that even more members can aspire to those heights during the coming year. Of course, the New Year, with its resolutions to get fitter, train harder and play smarter is the time to start to turn aspiration into achievement... and where better than WBC to become the sports star you want to be? We look forward to seeing you getting the New Year off to the great start you know you’ll need for later successes.

A couple of administrative points to put into diaries for January... Anyone with ambitions to assist the club by volunteering for a role on a committee, or just helping one of our many functions, can be assured of two things – a warm welcome, and a massive thank you... But we need to know who might be looking to stand on the general committee by 11th January 2017, so that those nominations can be processed in time for the AGM, which has been set for Thursday 26th January 2017. See the notice on the club notice board for details. And on another administrative note, please be aware that we have a volunteer who will open the gates to the club grounds, but not the clubhouse, on Christmas Day, if anyone wishes to use the sports facilities on that day. What better way to build an appetite for your turkey than a quick set or two, or a paddle up the river?

And so to that massive thank you... Our club is a members’ club, run by volunteers, in the interests of all members. It could not function in the way it does, without the dozens of people who give their time to help out – whether as coaches, organisers, gardeners, bar staff, or just general shifters and muckers-in. The members who serve on committees remain the life blood of the club, giving time regularly and enthusiastically to help keep things working – and we all owe them a great debt of gratitude. Similarly our staff, who all work hard throughout the year to run our beautiful club.  And so, on behalf of all members, can I simply say to all those who have given time in whatever way during the last year – Thank you...

Finally, it is traditional at this time of year to give thought to those less fortunate than ourselves – so please spare a thought for the residents of Leamington, Stratford, Kenilworth and elsewhere, who haven’t yet learned about the joys of our club, compared to theirs...

So, let’s raise a glass to Warwick Boat Club, and please enjoy your Christmas.

Pip pip...
