At the end of 2015, G&F Financial Group turned 75, and we celebrated this milestone by declaring 2016 as our Year of Sharing. Throughout the year, we held a number of initiatives designed to give back to our members and communities as a thank you for their support over the last 75 years.
Here are some Year of Sharing highlights to share as we wrap up 2016.

At G&F, we are defined and made better by our members, and for our Year of Sharing, we captured some member stories. Even though each member we spoke with was unique, they all shared a common thread – a relationship with G&F that goes beyond banking and has empowered them to reach important milestones in their lives.

We’re proud to give young adults the boost they need to help them begin their educational journey. During our Year of Sharing, we gave away ten $750 education bursaries to our young G&F members who showed extraordinary community and extracurricular involvement – qualities that we value at G&F.
G&F was proud to be able to support these young members, who are on their way to making a dynamic impact in this world.

In 2016, we forged a first-of-its kind partnership with Chimp to help our credit union optimize our charitable giving and community involvement. We kicked off this partnership with a $1 million donation to our G&F Foundation, in honor of our 75th anniversary. With these funds, so far we've supported over ten worthy organizations, from the Multiple Sclerosis Society to the Justice Institute of British Columbia, with more support coming in the years to come.

One of G&F’s core values focuses on making a positive impact in our communities. In our Year of Sharing, we worked with a number of meaningful, local non-profit and charity groups, to give our time and raise funds for initiatives that make a difference in the neighbourhoods where we live and work.

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF)
The 2016 BCCHF campaign, led by dedicated G&F employee volunteers, raised over $20,000 to help purchase life-saving equipment and conduct cutting edge research into childhood diseases.
G&F has supported the BCCHF for over 15 years, and has raised over $268,000 during that time period.

Richmond Hospital Foundation
Every year, G&F holds a charity golf tournament in September so that members, employees and partners can raise funds for a local charity organization. In 2016, the G&F Charity Golf Tournament raised $50,000 to support the Richmond Hospital Foundation in purchasing vital medical equipment to help treat cancer and other serious illnesses.

United Way
Entering the holiday season, G&F employees were motivated to open their hearts to the United Way of the Lower Mainland– a local charity dedicated to addressing social issues in order to build stronger and healthier communities.
Throughout the month of November, G&F raised over $60,000 to support the United Way of the Lower Mainland – a combined effort from employees and the Board of Directors.
