Look Around

This may seem like an odd title coming from someone with a visual impairment, but God's work over the last year at our church has been so obvious. Christmas BLVD seemed to be the icing on the cake. Thousands came and enjoyed the gift that we gave to our community. I heard a story of someone coming to Christ at the end of the Walk Through Bethlehem. I witnessed dozens of Bibles being taken. I saw tremendous joy filled faces as Mitzi and I greeted people over this weekend. God is moving at EvFree!

Have you taken the time to look around and see all of the things that He is doing? If 2016 is any indicator of what 2017 will look like . . . WOW. Brace yourself and enjoy the ride. In 2017, we expect that God will bring us a new Senior Pastor (in His perfect timing, of course), more great teaching, Sunday after Sunday of worshipping together, but most importantly many opportunities to grow in the grace and love of Jesus. As we think about the coming year, I would like to encourage all of us to be people that truly listen and see the great things that God will do in our midst. Let’s make 2017 a year of gratitude. I can guarantee you, if you look and listen and see God’s handiwork in motion, you will be filled with gratitude.

I am reminded of this incredible chorus: “Great is thy Faithfulness. Great is thy Faithfulness. Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided, Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me (EvFree)!”

Blessings to you, EvFree family in this New Year. May God anoint you to do the work that He has called you to do. May His kingdom be expanded and His name be praised. May He continue to mold us and shape us into the people that He wants us to be. Amen.

Fred Ouderkerken
Elder Board Chairman

Please mark January 29 at 3pm on your calendar for our next Congregational Meeting. We should have exciting updates on the Senior Pastor search and the Young Adults group will join us for pizza after.

Year End Giving

In order for a contribution to be tax-deductible in 2016 it will need to be postmarked by December 31, 2016. It can be brought to the church office by midnight, December 31, 2016 and placed in the upstairs “A” building mail slot. Also, online contributions made by midnight, December 31, 2016 will also qualify for 2016. Please note that any contributions received on Sunday, January 1, 2017 will be for 2017. That includes any contributions received in the offering baskets and/or giving towers.

Nominating Elders

Annually we nominate Elders in January and affirm them in May. I Timothy 3:1–6 says the qualifications for an Elder are:

This saying is trustworthy: “If someone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a good work.” The overseer then must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, an able teacher, not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not contentious, free from the love of money. He must manage his own household well and keep his children in control without losing his dignity. But if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for the church of God? He must not be a recent convert or he may become arrogant and fall into the punishment that the devil will exact. And he must be well thought of by those outside the faith, so that he may not fall into disgrace and be caught by the devil’s trap.

Our Constitution says:
The Nominating Committee shall be appointed annually by the Elder Board and shall consist of a chairman, a vice-chairman and five members, including representatives from the Elder Board, the ministry staff and the congregation at large. The committee chairman may ask to increase the size of the committee to help in the workload or to provide knowledge required to fulfill the committee’s charter.

We invite any member of EvFree to submit names for future Elders to elders@evfreefullerton.com. Thank you for your prayerful participation in nominating Elders for our church.
