Special Notice 2816
My wife and I got in a thirty-minute visit today with Sam, his wife and a daughter. He suffers from internal tumors that have become uncontrollable. After two weeks at the Fort Belvoir hospital his doctors plan to release him on Friday, send him home, and put him under 24-hour hospice care.
Sam looked surprisingly well and his mind is as sharp as a tack. But he is seriously ill and is resigned to the eventual outcome. He is a man of strong faith and says he is spiritually ready to accept his fate. He moved to emeritus status just a couple of years ago, and is proud of his military career which included CAG-19, CO of Kitty Hawk, and OP-59 manpower.
