Optics and Photonics Education

spie.org

SPIE is an international society that works to advance interdisciplinary approaches to the science and application of light. As part of its education outreach mission, SPIE is awarding grants to support optics- and photonics- related education outreach activities. The society offers two kinds of grants: SPIE Education Outreach grants and Sustaining grants.  Eligible, applicants include nonprofit organizations, optics centers, science centers, primary or secondary schools, youth clubs, industry associations, and international optical societies.

Wireless Innovation

The Vodafone Americas Foundation has announced its ninth annual Wireless Innovation Project, which offers applicants the opportunity to win up to $300,000 for innovative mobile solutions with the potential to solve critical global issues. The mobile or wireless solution must have the potential to solve issues in one of the following areas: access to communication, education, economic development, the environment, and health.

Domestic Violence Shelters that Permit Pets

www.akchumanefund.org

The American Kennel Club Humane Fund, the charitable arm of the American Kennel Club, works to unite a broad spectrum of animal lovers in promoting the joy and value of responsible pet ownership through education, outreach, and grantmaking. To that end, the fund is accepting grant applications from women's shelters that permit pets. The Fund's Women's Shelter grants are awarded for essential operational support related to the housing of pets or capital improvements specifically for the housing and maintenance of pets. To be eligible, organizations must provide temporary or permanent housing for victims of domestic abuse and their pets or provide temporary or permanent housing for pets of victims of domestic abuse and have a formal, established working relationship with at least one nonprofit shelter for victims of domestic abuse.

Art Works

www.arts.gov

The National Endowment for the Arts is accepting applications for its Art Works program.  Grants are limited to projects and events and may not be used for operating expenses. Both project planning and implementation is eligible for assistance.   Projects need not be new. Excellent existing projects can be just as competitive as new activities.  Grants range from $10,000 - $100,000.

National Endowment for the Arts – Challenge America

www.arts.gov

The Challenge America category offers support primarily to small and mid-sized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations -- those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. Age alone (e.g., youth, seniors) does not qualify a group as underserved; at least one of the underserved characteristics noted above also must be present. Grants are available for professional arts programming and for projects that emphasize the potential of the arts in community development.
