In the video below, I share an article from one of my business heroes -- Derek Sivers -- and I'll intersperse with my commentary.
Do what you love and make enough money
Dec 19, 2016 by Derek Sivers
(with some edits from George Kao)...
The problem:
People with a well-paying job ask my advice because they want to quit to become full-time artists.
Yet, full-time artists ask my advice because they’re finding it impossible to make money.
(Let’s define “art” as anything you do for your soulful expression and creativity, which could include blogging, music, making videos, using a healing modality to help people, teaching a body of wisdom you're passionate about, coaching people through a particular transformation you feel is deeply needed in the world, etc.)
The solution:
For both of them, I prescribe the lifestyle of the happiest people I know:
1. Have a well-paying job. (I'll discuss alternatives to this in the article & video below.)
2. Seriously pursue your art for love, not money.
There are 4 ingredients: Balance, Job, Art, Self-Control.

The Blessing of Problems
You cannot expect your plans to work out perfectly, i.e. you can expect "problems". Choose your attitude toward it...
Most people just go into negativity, without consciously choosing it. And they don't see the ripple effects that such negativity has on their life, and on the lives of others around them.
Wallowing in sadness, giving into despondency, or indulging in anger, does not serve your life. It harms it, and brings others down in negativity as well.
You always have a choice.
Instead of unconscious negativity, you can choose to see this:
The Blessing of Problems.
Difficulties, hardships, challenges, confusions, frustrations, failures, setbacks -- these come into your life *not* for the purpose of bringing you down. Remember this.
Ironically, they come into your life to uplift you. It is a *gift* that is cleverly wrapped in a way you don't immediately understand.
If you choose to see the Blessing of Problems, then you will have the positivity to do something creative to solve your problems.

The Next Time You Take A Selfie...
The next time you take a selfie photo or video, don't look at yourself -- look at the camera lens. It makes a subtle but important difference in how connected to you the viewer feels.
I see so many people -- including savvy marketers with a great eye for design -- making this simple mistake...

Let's Stop Saying "Make More Money"...
To all my fellow business/marketing coaches/trainers/speakers -- let's stop spreading the message of "making more money."
There's a better way.
The message of "making more money" creates greed -- never enough, Hedonic Treadmill, hungry ghost.
This creates unhealthy competition, a desire to "dominate" the market, "make a killing", and a suppression of higher soul.

This is my favorite Christmas song...
|
|
Lyrics:
Someday at Christmas, men won't be boys
Playin' with bombs like kids play with toys
One warm December our hearts will see
A world where people are free
Someday at Christmas, there'll be no wars
When we have learned what Christmas is for
When we have found what life's really worth
There'll be peace on Earth
Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where all are free
Maybe not in time for you or me
But someday at Christmas time
Someday at Christmas, we'll see a land
With no hungry children, no empty hand
One happy morning, people will share
In a world where people care
Someday at Christmas, there'll be no tears
Where all are equal, and no one has fears
One shining moment, one prayer away
From our world today.
Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where all are free
Maybe not in time for you or me
But someday, at Christmas time.
