Important Update: District/Building Addresses

We mentioned in our last update that we are in the process of preparing a common login for a statewide professional development registration system and more.  Thank you to all those who have updated their employee BoEE folder numbers within the system.  For those that have not done so, a reminder that will help assure their current accounts can be used to log into the new AEA systems.

Our next step is to add district and building addresses within the system.  While the buildings have been in our system for a few years, mailing addresses is a new feature.  We have pre-populated the addresses with information from the DE website, but there is the chance that the information is inaccurate or incomplete.

To check the information, login with administrative access and click on the Admin tab at the top.  Then click on the District button.

On the next screen, click on the Buildings button that appears:

You will then see a screen like this:

At the top are listed your current buildings with their addresses.  Go ahead and edit the addresses and click the save button in Step 2.  IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not check the box next to the address unless you are intending to delete a building.

If there is a building that is missing, you can add that below, clicking the 2nd button when you are finished.

Coming 2017: District Self-Paced Courses!

We are excited to announce a new feature for 2017.  While our current self-paced course catalog has been a hit with teachers and districts alike, we have been asked about the opportunity for districts to offer credit for their own self-paced learning PD.  We will be adding that feature in 2017.

While districts have long had the ability to "favorite" trainings from the statewide catalog or build their own, the ability to sequence them together into their own course will be new.  Say you would like to create a course entitled "District XYZ 2017-18 Professional Development" and fill it with trainings that align with your internal professional development plans for the year.  You will be able to do so, and offer license renewal credit for them.

Note: Interested districts will need to propose the course, and like our current self-paced courses, they will need to assure the following components:
  • 15 hours of instructional time
  • Implementation activities
  • Feedback from an instructor

Transitional Coaching Authorization

In conjunction with 7 Second Coach, we have launched our Transitional Coaching Authorization course, which meets the requirements of the BoEE’s new transitional coaching authorization.  It essentially takes the full 55-hour Coaching Authorization course and breaks it into two pieces.  The first course (Transitional Coaching Authorization) can be completed in a relatively short amount of time and covers coaching ethics, the licensure process, concussion protocol, and mandatory reporting of child abuse.  The second course (Transitional Coaching Authorization Supplement) is the remainder of the required course work.

The transitional coaching authorization course is intended for those who are looking to coach right away, and may not be sure if this is a long-term item they want to do.  In addition to completing the first course before starting, it requires a local coach to agree to mentor the new coach during the coaching season, and for the new coach to finish the supplement within one calendar year from starting.  Because of this, it really is not an option for someone to self-select (that is, a person shouldn’t choose to take the transitional coaching authorization without having a specific coaching job with a mentor already lined up).  If a person is interested in being authorized for coaching, it is more cost effective to do the full coaching authorization course instead of breaking it into the two parts.
