Tips and Tricks for the Holidays
Nelida Lozoya-Lewis, veteran caregiver and VSN El Paso Steering Committee Member, helped put together this guide with tips for veteran caregivers and families on avoiding triggers and mitigating stress around the holiday season. The guide can be used by families to help them plan for events. It can also be given to civillians in your extended family or friend circles to help them better understand the challenges your family may face with trying to avoid symptoms of hyper-arousal or anxiety at holiday gatherings. >>DOWNLOAD THE GUIDE HERE<< |

Reflections One Year In
It's been a little under a year since VSN staff first came together to envision what this program might be. With your help, the Veteran Spouse Network is entering 2017 with a clear purpose and a drive to address the unmet needs identified by military families like you across the state.
We listened to your survey responses, and have a number of exciting webinar trainings coming up based on your interests. We will also be hosting several in-person trainings based on these topics in the Central Texas area.
Your voices continue to positively impact the care veteran families receive across the state. This month, we invited military and veteran spouses to meet at the Military Family Clinic at Metrocare to give input on the design of their new veteran family program. We know family-centered, family-informed programs provide the best support for our community, and we can't thank those who participated enough for their invaluable input.
There'll be plenty of opportunities to serve on program steering committees. If you are interested in sharing your voice with researchers and providers serving veteran families, or you'd like to find out more about the Strong Families program, contact us!
As always, thank you for all that you and your family have done to serve this country. We at VSN are wishing your family a happy holiday season and a peaceful, joyous new year.
With gratitude,
