Livestock Friendly Counties

For more than a decade, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) has been implementing the Livestock Friendly County (LFC) program as directed by the Nebraska Legislature. A recently released study by agricultural economists at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln indicates that the voluntary LFC designation has had a stronger positive correlation to livestock expansion than almost all other factors measured in the study.

In reacting to the release of the results of the study, NDA Director Greg Ibach said “It signifies at the county level, they’re more open to projects and more open to growing their industry. Livestock Friendly Counties have made a commitment to transparency and consistence to their producers.”

In 2016 six counties have been designated as “livestock friendly.” Those counties include Antelope, Burt, Cheyenne, Colfax, Richardson and York bringing the total of LFCs in Nebraska to 41.
