How We Treat Our Own Kids
The other night I was at a holiday party and I noticed a woman being unusually playful with her child. "Wow, I have never seen that side of her,” I thought. Then I looked again and realized she was playing with her friend’s child. She had reserved her playful side for kids that were not her own. This isn’t uncommon. So often we are harder on our own kids than we are on others. We expect too much of them, as we do of ourselves.
We have all been guilty at times. But what if you replace the next “no” with a “yes.” What if next time you don’t punish, you listen. I recently came across teacher Chen Miller and her approach to kids inspired me. Take a look here.
