British Council - Disability Arts International
Welcome to 2017 from Disability Arts International
5 January 2017
Let's make 2017 a year for new connections and collaborations
Happy New Year. It is a great time to renew your organisation’s commitment to increasing access for disabled people as audiences and as artists.

If you missed our past newsletters, do take a look via our newsletter archive, or feel free to share information on how to sign up for our newsletter with colleagues and friends.

We start the year with a look back at some of our favourite content from 2016, but also with a major campaign to see more artists and companies from more countries creating a profile on our website. Together we can counter the geographic isolation of Deaf and disabled artists which so often prevents international collaboration, touring and exhibitions.
Best of 2016: Disabled Leaders in Dance film
This film was one of our most popular pieces of content all year, with nearly 25,000 YouTube views already. Emma Gladstone, Artistic Director of London’s Dance Umbrella explores how disabled choreographers and dancers are pioneering new forms and aesthetics, speaking to practictioners and programmers in the UK and overseas.
Best of 2016: Three Adventures in Accessible Music Technology
There are some exciting things happening in the field of Accessible Music Technology (AMT), with some real momentum gathering in pockets across the UK. Are we about to witness this niche practice explode into the mainstream? This short film follows three disabled musicians working at the bleeding edge of developments.
We're on the look out for disabled artists and disability-led or inclusive companies
Are you a disabled artist, or do you work for a disabled-led or inclusive company anywhere in the world? Are you making professional work and do you have work ready to tour, ready for international exhibition, or ready for international screening?

We invite you to create a profile on Disability Arts International, a resource aimed at countering the geographical isolation of Deaf and disabled artists, at encouraging international cooperation, and at sharing best practice across borders.

If you can’t see your favourite artist or company on our existing database, why not forward this newsletter to them and tell them they are missing out on international connections?

Signs of a Diva
A treat to start the New Year: Signs of a Diva
Here's a sprinkling of New Year's joy for your inbox: this magical trailer for Graeae Theatre Company's past production, Signs of a Diva, featuring Caroline Parker. It follows the story of Sue, an unassuming woman whose cabaret alter-ego Tammy Frascati is thrust into stardom and performances in Las Vegas, signing the songs of Sue's favourite divas Billie Holiday, Dusty Springfield, Ella Fitzgerald & Gloria Gaynor.

Have a look at Graeae's company profile on Disability Arts International, and the profile of Abnormally Funny People of which Caroline Parker is also a member.
