NEW YEAR’S DAY, 1ST JANUARY 2017
Morning Praise
At 10.00 a.m.
This is a reminder about the closure of Paddington station over Christmas this year to allow for electrification and Crossrail works.
The six-day closure starts on Christmas Eve, Saturday December 24th, through to Thursday 29th December. This will mean trains are very busy on Friday 23rd December, and GWR are recommending customers to book ahead and travel early if they can.
Trains will start and finish at Ealing Broadway throughout the closure with customers completing their journey by London Underground. There are no lifts at the station. GWR are therefore strongly recommending that customers who will find using Ealing Broadway difficult should change trains at Reading and travel to and from London Waterloo. South West Trains have agreed to accept GWR tickets to support this.
Full details are on GWR's website on a dedicated page -
https://www.gwr.com/travel-updates/christmas-travel - including details on travelling with bikes, the sleeper service and the Pullman dining service.

Door-to-door fish selling scam
B&NES’s Trading Standards Team is warning residents not to fall for a door-to-door fish-selling scam.
The team has received reports of doorstep callers trying to persuade residents to buy what they claim is fresh expensive fish. Residents have spent up to £200 but when they cook the fish they have discovered the packs are not labelled and their contents are not what they were told. The sellers also tend not to offer customers cancellation rights or provide a receipt to allow them to seek a refund if they are not satisfied with the goods.
Councillor Martin Veal (Conservative, Bathavon North) Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “We would advise people that the best place to buy fish is from a reputable fishmonger at an established shop or stall. Rogue traders often call on unsuspecting households to persuade people to buy their goods, but very often they are selling poor quality items with no opportunity for the consumer to ask for a refund or replacement.
“It can often be difficult to spot a rogue trader and can sometimes be hard to say no, especially as rogue traders often use high pressure sales tactics and can be very persuasive. We all like the idea of a bargain, but if the deal sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Trust your instincts and never buy from doorstep callers.”
Anyone who has been approached by fish sellers in this manner should contact the
Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 03454 04 05 06.
