New brand name launched

We're incredibly pleased to announce the launch of our new brand.

CivicRisk Mutual marks the next stage of our business.  It is a reflection on our mission and vision: Making the business of our members safe and secure while delivering tailored, excellent risk management solutions.

Thank you for the part you've played in our success so far.  We hope you like the new look and we look forward to working together in the future.

Local Government risk management in action

Since the engagement of CGU in 2013 they have undertaken over 60 audits of our most significant buildings, providing advice on how to best protect the assets. CGU has acknowledged the members of CivicRisk Mutual's commitment and support to risk management activities within their council.

Now that CGU has a better understanding of the members' risks they intend to commence a tailored risk management program for every member in 2017.  They will be discussing the process with the Risk Management Committee in February and commence the project in March 2017.

IAG & CivicRisk Mutual join forces

IAG have developed a Local Government Industry Practice Group with CivicRisk Mutual aiming to help councils manage risks faced by them and their communities.  In partnership with the members, IAG plans to build resilience through sharing initiatives and innovations developed amongst its clients internationally.

It is expected the partnership will be of mutual benefit for the councils to be able to better prepare, respond to and recover from risks that they and their community are exposed to.  In this way IAG predicts this will reduce claims and aid recovery following significant events.

IAG have currently been working with councils introducing new technologies available for risk mitigation and sharing IAG expertise.  An example of these new technologies is Dipstik which is an early flood warning system to be piloted by Shellharbour and Liverpool Councils.

CivicRisk Mutual negotiates a long term insurance deal

CivicRisk Mutual has negotiated a three-year deal that will provide protection for its members at a lower self insured risk level and at a much reduced rate.  This will guarantee significant savings for members over the next three years and provide continuity and security of cover until October 2019.

Market testing the Mutual's services

We're often asked by our members, should we market test the Pool contribution?  The contributions members pay is based on a collection of services and every service contract above $150,000 is market tested collectively by an independent assessor.  In the case of insurance premiums we regularly market test our broker and they are engaged to market test our insurances annually.  This ensures we meet the tendering provisions of the Local Government Act and ensures we get value for money for all our services and insurances.
$10,000 risk management grants
Following on from the CivicRisk Mutual Board resolution to set aside funds to provide risk management support for all members, risk grants to the value of $10,000 each year are now available for each member council to address risk issues.

Members should contact the office on 1300 837 493 and speak with the Executive Officer to see if your risk project qualifies for the grant assistance.
CivicRisk Mutual provides $2,000 per year per member council to conduct driver training courses to help drivers reduce the running costs of vehicles whilst developing safer driving behaviours of drivers.

The course focuses on driver attitudes and behaviours and will provide staff with all the skills required to be the safest and most efficient drivers they can be.
