Dear Aphids Lovers, Family and Friends,
Thank-you for your inimitable support across another wild year.
We presented Howl, a large scale feminist spectacle at Arts House as part of the incredible FOLA, toured to the Schwindelfrei Festival, Germany, the Wonderfeel Festival, Netherlands and the Substation, Newport. Not to mention creating an absolutely epic work Artefact at the ANTI Festival for Contemporary Art in the dark heart of Kuopio, Finland. In between we kept developing our next project, Crawl Me Blood, advocating for the importance of interdisciplinary art and welcoming our amazing new Executive Producer, Claire Portek.
A huge and heartfelt bow to the artists who created and collaborated on the program, the incredibly talented Lz Dunn, Lara Thoms, James Brennan, Rosemary Joy and Halcyon Macleod.
We are not going to pretend its been an easy year. We won’t. Its been a soul jerking horror show as we once again had to find the resilience to remain flexible, buoyant and optimistic about the future of the arts in Australia. Let alone international politics.
As artists, it is our job to feel and reflect the zeitgeist and there is a palpable sense of anguish about what the future means right now. WTF.
In the midst of this, I find the community of artists, managers and companies hugely energising and the action that we have seen over this year to mobilise, to support each other has been amazing.
In the midst of this we thought we would send you a Christmas present. It's an online publication about some of the projects we have done that we thought were impossible to do, and they were, but the act of making them was enough. We hope they give you some rainbows of your own.
Love xxx Willoh S.Weiland
