MPP shares a list of its legislative priorities

Summary: The Chairman of the MPP Caucus, D. Khayankhyarvaa, held a press conference to inform the public about the key issues and decisions the MPP discussed during their party's caucus meeting. The MPP Caucus convened to discuss the need to make changes to the Law on Elections, the Constitution, the Law on Public Officials, public referendums, and the Law on Administration and Management of Territorial Units. D. Khayankhyarvaa stated, “During the meeting, the attendance and tardiness of members was discussed. Members agreed to be on time to start meetings according to schedule.” Some members of the MPP believe that the Consumer Rights Protection Law is detrimental to businesses.  D. Khayankhyarvaa stated, “From my point of view, the laws about offshore accounts must approved, and Parliament is still discussing whether or not to add amendments to the law.”

DP’s chairmanship election kicks off

Summary: The candidates for the chairmanship election of the Democratic Party officially received their candidacy certificates and election campaigns have kicked off. The candidates are S. Erdene, D. Erdenebat, L. Gantumur, J. Batzandan, and N. Altankhuyag.  Current chair of the DP Z. Enkhbold stated, “We are the first party in Mongolia to choose a party leader with a majority vote and we hope the other parties follow our example. Any member of our party had the right to run for the election. Some members could not register due to regulations and rules, and we apologize. By eliminating unnecessary expenses, this election will cost 1.2 billion MNT, and 2020’s success starts today.”

Policy interest rate is lowered by 1%

Summary: The Bank of Mongolia’s Monetary Policy Council convened and reached a decision to lower the policy interest rate by 1%, making the interest rate 14%.  The central bank announced that the decision was based on a forecast of a stable inflation rate, improvements to trade conditions and the balance of payments, tighter fiscal control, and to improve investment environment to support critical industries. The new monetary policy will go into effect today. The Bank of Mongolia raised the interest rate by 4.5% last August in order to stabilize foreign exchange rate fluctuations.

The Ulaanbaatar Mayor’s Office to partner with The Asia Foundation

Summary: The Ulaanbaatar Mayor Office is set partner with The Asia Foundation to implement the Ulaanbaatar Anti-Corruption Program. The partnership aims to improve the 2016-2020 development program's governance and regulatory environment, and to increase transparency. The Asia Foundation started its operations in Mongolia 1990, and its current programs help to strengthen anti-corruption efforts and improve administration reform, improve the governance of cities and civic engagement. The Mayor’s Office and The Asia Foundation have been cooperating for six years, and by signing a memorandum of understanding to implement the program, the decisions made by the Mayor’s Office and the District Governor’s Office will be published online to increase transparency. The Asia Foundation will also provide aid and consultation in improving transparency in the education and health sectors, and in improving the human capital of those sectors.
