Where has 2016 gone? Thanks to everyone for a lovely year of music, keeping us all going through the ups and downs of world events along the way. Our three stramashes were full of joyful music and song - well done to all tutors and students, especially our absolute beginners who did themselves proud. Visit our Facebook page for some photos and video. The office closes on Tuesday 20th December, and re-opens on Thursday 5th January. We wish you all a peaceful festive season and a happy 2017.

Classes are gradually filling up! As announced at the stramashes, Early Bird finished on 15th Dec. Sign up soon to ensure your place.

The mid-term break falls on 14th, 15th, 16th February.
 

**PLEASE NOTE**
Due to Parents’ Nights in Term 2,
Boroughmuir classes have an extra night on 29th and 30th March.

There are no Boroughmuir classes on Wed 18th Jan or Thurs 2nd Feb 2017.

REFER A FRIEND - free membership for you both.

Sign up a friend, neighbour, work colleague or relative to join SMG! 

Recommend SMG to someone who has not attended a class before and we will give you both credit to the value of a year's membership: £15 or £20 each depending on your status. To qualify, you both have to sign up for a membership and Term 2, we will give you each a credit towards your fees in Term 3.

Follow these steps: 
1) Student A: Signs up as a member for 2016/17 & enrols in a class for Term 2
2) Student B: Registers with the SMG website, buys a membership and enrols in Term 2
3) One student contacts the SMG office referencing both bookings, we will check our records and apply the credit to your accounts. This will be displayed on your Dashboard in the Customer Area when you log in at 
scotsmusic.org

At least one of the people enrolling must not have attended SMG classes in the past three years.

Current SMG members who introduce a new person can also qualify for the offer, but BOTH people must enrol in a Term 2 class and hold/purchase a valid membership.

Please note the account credits will expire on 1st June 2017 as we are phasing out the voucher credit system.

Fiddle 1a with Darragh Quinn
For complete beginners, or those who would like to go back to basics. Everything will be explained assuming no prior knowledge. You should have a fiddle to bring to the class. Suitable for people who have never played fiddle/violin before. Learn how to hold the fiddle and bow, tune your instrument, basic fingering and bowing techniques, getting a good sound and some basic music theory.

Thanks to our many ceilidh volunteers and supportive bands who have helped us raise almost £4,000 since September for SMG funds. Our dates and bands for 2017 are as follows:

Student Concert 2016 - save the date

Towards the end of Term 2 each year, we have a Student Concert where classes perform a couple of numbers on stage in front of fellow students and friends and family. The night is also a fundraiser for SMG, partly to help cover the costs of the venue and tutors who attend. SAVE THE DATE 2!

SMG will be holding a fundraising concert at Summerhall on Monday 1st May as part of Tradfest 2017 with a star-studded line-up. Watch this space!
Well done to Fiddle 7 & Eilidh Steel who undertook their first public performance at a local care home in Chamberlain Rd in early December. It was well-received and much appreciated by the residents.
