Happy New Year everyone ...
I really hope you have all had a fabulous Christmas and New Year and your batteries are recharged and ready for the fun challenges and adventures for 2017.

Urgent class Update - Widmer End Weds 4th Jan - class cancelled
Sorry but I have been in bed the last few days with a fever, horrendous cold and cough, although slightly better today I am afraid I am still not well enough to run the class in the morning, so Widmer End will start back next Weds 11th Jan. My sincere apologies as I was looking forward to seeing everyone. Ali will be with you om the 11th and then myself for a conditioning class the following week.

So whats new?
What are your Health and fitness goals for this year?
What are you going to change this year?
Do you keep putting it off or making excuses as to why it doesn't happen?

This last year has been a real challenge for me physically as well as mentally and it really does bring it home how important it is to look after yourself and those around you. If you aren't in the best health then it impacts on so many things. I know I couldn't have controlled the accident I had and the consequences it has had, but I can control the what I eat and how I look after my body and wellbeing. YOU can too.... its just about using the resources you have around you and asking for help if you need it.

With this in mind I have planned two new things for the New Year. A new food plan to help us with healthy eating choices which will be in classes from the 2nd week in January and also I have agreed to be part of a nationwide study on the effects of 12 week Nordic walking programme on health related fitness and overall wellbeing.
I have managed to secure a new booklet 'Real results for the real YOU' to help us with making healthier eating choices and hope to have it in classes from next week
  • Have you been struggling to lose weight or tone up over the last few years and are finding it particularly difficult, especially as you get older?
  • Perhaps there's a big birthday or special event looming and you feel disappointed that you haven't tackled your weight gain sooner?
  • Do you hate that feeling of clothes being too tight and not being able to find anything to wear in your wardrobe?
  • Are you confused about what you should eat to lose weight as you've tried EVERY diet out there, but nothing seems to work anymore?
No more wasted years wishing you had taken action... you simply get on with living and LOVING your life!
  • Take away any confusion about what to eat and what to avoid but best of all you will be eating tasty and nutritious food that all the family can enjoy and you should never be left feeling hungry!
  • We will tell you about the best form of exercise to get in shape quickly without having to join a gym!
CQ stands for Carbohydrate Quota, because this approach is all about helping you to lose weight and improve your health by keeping your starchy carbohydrates low and eating natural and nutritious food. Starchy carbohydrates include foods like sugar, bread, pasta, sweets, cakes and biscuits, as well as refined and processed food.
CQ has been developed as a way to eat and enjoy good, nutritious food and lose weight at the same time.
Not only have people lost weight but they also feel much better - healthy, fit and full of energy. CQ is about changing the way you eat and how you eat, and people who have achieved their target weight still follow the CQ principles because they enjoy the food and they feel good.

Nordic Walking UK, has teamed up with Queen Marys University London to examine the health- and wellbeing-related benefits of the Nordic Walking UK Learn to Nordic Walk programme and regular Nordic walking participation. The cardiovascular benefits of exercise, and the wide-ranging benefits of walking, are well documented. The aim of this study is to examine changes in fitness, strength, flexibility and wellbeing in a large group of subjects recruited nationally before and after completing a 12-week Nordic Walking UK programme. The outcomes will be compared with existing data from traditional walking programmes, to explore the benefits specific to Nordic Walking UK’s teaching programme.
I was selected and invited to participate and have been trained by QMUL to conduct the measurements so that new Nordic walking clients in 2017 will have the option to learn more about their own current fitness, strength, flexibility and wellbeing, and to see how our Nordic Walking UK programme benefits them over the next 3 months.
All the measures are optional, but the full research package includes:
  • Health-related fitness measurements
  • Cardiorespiratory fitness measurement
  • Lower body strength and endurance
  • Upper body strength and endurance
  • Lower body flexibility measurements
  • Questionnaires measuring wellbeing, anxiety, depression, flourishing and life satisfaction markers
For all new Nordic walking clients in January to March, 2017, there is no additional charge to participate in the research programme and you can gain more knowledge about your own fitness and wellbeing.  Participants will engage in the NWUK Learn to Nordic Walk programme and in regular Nordic walking classes with all clients. Additional sessions to conduct the measurements will be arranged.
If you’d like to learn to Nordic walk in 2017, whether you wish to participate in the research or not, please contact me. We have regular Nordic walking taster sessions http://www.harmonynordicwalking.co.uk – come and try Nordic walking and learn more about just how good Nordic walking can make you feel, and how to benefit from participating in the research programme.

For those of you who already Nordic walk I have decided to offer some specific sessions based on these principals so that you to can also to learn more about your own current fitness, strength, flexibility and wellbeing, The sessions are currently titled Time Trials and will be held at different points throughout the year so you an measure your progress to help you reach your health and fitness goals. The sessions will evolve over the next few months so keep an eye out for them.

Fitness Pilates
I am still planning to start these classes back on Weds 18th Jan unless my physio tells me otherwise. If you are interested to start back again please let me know asap and I will keep you updated of dates.

SO whatever your health and fitness goals, I look forward to moving forward with you and helping you reach the best that you can possibly be.

Looking forward to seeing you soon
Love Adele x
