Common Place is hosting an all-day fundraiser on Tuesday, January 10th at FlatTop Grill, 5201 W. War Memorial Drive in Peoria. FlatTop Grill will donate 10 percent of the day’s restaurant sales to the Common Place Family Learning Support Center to benefit innovative programs and training supporting literacy and a bright future. Patrons must bring a fundraiser flyer or show the flyer on their smartphones for the 10 percent donation to apply. To view and save/print a flyer, visit commonplacepeoria.org. Plan out your new year with the help of the Peoria Park District’s Winter Playbook, now available on its website and throughout the community. Registration for classes and programs begin today; families may also begin to register for summer camps. Winter Playbooks are available at any Peoria Park District facility, Peoria Public Library Branch, and other locations throughout the community. Wednesdays, January 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th @ Heinold Banwart
A weekly event to engage, educate and connect local entrepreneurs, 1 Million Cups takes place at 7:30am on Wednesday mornings at Heinold Banwart, 201 Clock Tower Drive in East Peoria. Thuirsday, January 5th @ Peoria Riverfront Museum
Local author and historian Ken Zurski will host a lecture on the Steamer Columbia wreck at 6pm, discussing the similarities between the Columbia's 1918 sinking on the Illinois River and the RMS Titanic disaster in 1912. Saturday, January 7th @ Forest Park Nature Center
The Eagles on the Illinois River birdwatching event kicks off at 10am. View bald eagles as they overwinter in the Illinois River Valley, while the Peoria Audubon Society and Forest Park Nature Center offer presentations and tours. Saturday, January 7th @ Wildlife Prairie Park
Celebrate Bald Eagle Day with activities running from 10am to 3pm and trails open from 9am to 4:30pm. There will be a scavenger hunt with the chance to win prizes, and raptor displays can be viewed in Forest Hall from 11am to 3pm, with a special raptor program at 11:15 and 1pm. A bird walker trail hike will take place at 10am and 2pm to see if guests can spot all the native Illinois birds. For details, visit wildlifeprairiepark.org

Tuesday, January 10th @ Peoria NEXT Innovation Center
The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Bradley University with Morton Community Bank will host a workshop on Starting a Business in Illinois from 3 to 6pm. The workshop is free and open to the public. For more information, visit bradley.edu/academic/colleges/fcba/centers/turner/events.
