A Note from the Library Director
Happy New Year to you and yours! I hope your 2017 is full of great times and happy memories.

Is your New Year's resolution to try something new? The library has you covered! Maybe you want to learn something new in a 6-week online course, available for free with your library card! Just search "Gale Courses" on the library's website, and get started learning new things from low-fat cooking to accounting skills. Or maybe you've always had a hankering to read the classics, from Moby Dick to The Catcher in the Rye. You know you can scratch that literary itch here, too! Perhaps you received a tablet or smart phone as a gift and are feeling flummoxed about how to get started with it. Just call our Adult Services Librarian, Hope Kramer, who can walk you through the basics in either a small-group format or in a one-on-one appointment. Perhaps you've been wanting yourself or the kids to get involved in a new group or activity -- please take a look at our large menu of programs for all ages!

Whatever your resolutions for 2017, I hope this year is all you hope it to be!

Yours in Reading,
Betsy Bleck, Library Director

News You Can Use
OPL is excited to share that over 100 children have signed up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten!

This free reading program, available to children ages 0-5, encourages parents and caregivers to read to their young children in order to develop pre-reading skills (e.g., vocabulary) and build a life-long love of reading and learning. By reading just three books a day, you can read 1,000 books in under a year!
Registration is on going, so it's not too late to join! Your child will receive a book bag and log book to keep track of books read. For every 100 books read, bring the log back to get a stamp and add a sticker to our bookworm! When you've read 500 and 1,000 books, pick out a prize book to take home!

How many books can we read in 2017? Let's go!
Library Mural
In August 2016, the library put out a notice seeking artists to submit proposals for a mural in the library's lobby. Eleven artists submitted proposals.  Library staff and board members voted on the mural proposals submitted based on design and the stories behind the artwork. Local artist, Anne Slatinsky-Raskopf, was chosen. She paints both residential and commercial murals, having adorned homes and establishments throughout the Lake Country Area.

For more information on the new mural, including some fun personalized details on Oconomowoc landmarks in the mural, visit our website.
