HOPE BORNEO CONVENTION
On 26th of November 2016 marked the beginning of the Hope Borneo Convention (HBC), held at RH Hotel in Sibu, Sarawak. The convention lasted for 4 days and 3 nights, ending on the 29th. The participants of the convention enjoyed incredible praise and worship sessions, teachings from Ps Denis Lu, Ps Simon Eng, Ps Moses Wan, Ps Ong Kwong Lie and Ps Samuel Phun, and exquisite local delicacies. The theme of the convention was ‘Multiply’. The convention hosted approximately 500 participants.

This year’s HBC has given the participants a chance to learn – in depth – about God’s desire for every church to multiply. The participants have learned that it’s not just about multiplying our numbers, but also about multiplying ourselves as individuals. In order to grow in numbers, we would require spiritual maturity in order to sustain God’s Kingdom, as well as the faith to believe in things unseen.

Inspirational preaching and motivational talks were held, as the 500 or so church members who joined the convention became empowered by God’s Word. ‘Multiply’ is not just an event, nor a one-time thing. It is a lifestyle, and it needs to be carried out every single day. As the convention drew closer and closer to an end, participants became aware of the concept of multiplication which is necessary for church growth and the importance of multiplication to not just the entire church community, but also to ourselves as God’s people.

The children, however, had a different agenda. Praise Kids Club (PKC) was held in a separate hall, where the children had fun learning more about God’s Word and participating in the various activities that were held. They also had a trip to the nearby park where they enjoyed a day in the sun.

Overall, the ‘Multiply’ convention was an enjoyable and empowering experience. The 4-day-3-night conference was indeed refreshing, as all church members were challenged to step out of their comfort zones and think outside the box. It is time to put our fears behind us, and step out in faith, trusting that God will deliver us no matter what situations we face. Many testimonies were shared and we all stood in awe at the many wonders that God had performed in this brief period of time we shared together.
