New this January are programs blending fun and crafts with literature such as the new Wednesday afternoon Storycrafters for school age children and a Winter Booksale on Saturday, January 28th at both libraries.  The craft part of the Booksale will be workshops on making journals with a sewn binding.
Please make note of our Holiday Hours:  Closing at 5 pm on Friday, December 30 and closed Saturday and Sunday, December 31 and January 1, 2017.

Book Club
Monday, January 9 at 6:15 pm at Tyler Free Library
This month's selection is The Invention of Wings, by Sue Monk Kidd. Join us the second Monday of each month as we discuss our book, enjoy lively conversation and refreshments. New members are welcome.  Call either library to reserve a book.
 
Cook Book Club
Thursday, January 12 at 6:00 pm at Tyler Free Library
Our cooking theme this month is Southern Cuisine.  Copies of cookbooks will be at both libraries, or browse the collections for a recipe that fits this theme.
 
Card Making
Saturday, January 14,  1:00 to 3:00 pm, at  Foster Public Library
Learn how to make a gift card by hand using special papers and embossing tools provided by the workshop leaders, Sharon and Lois. Recommended for adults, teens and school-age children accompanied by an adult.  You will take home three cards with envelopes. Suggested donation $ 5 for materials or a donation to the Foster Food Pantry.
 
AskRI Basics: doing online research for home and school projects
Tuesday, January 17,  at 6:00 pm at  Foster Public Library
Wondering where to find homework help? How to look for a job online? Need to find health information or simply looking for another great book to read?  The answer can be found at AskRI.
This introduction to AskRI will guide you to a variety of useful online resources. Please call to reserve a seat. Recommended for adults and children in grades 5 - 12.  Bring a laptop, or use one of ours, for a guided tour through a universe of reliable, fact-based knowledge for home, school and business information.
 
Internet Security for the Everyday User, a talk by Bob Gregory of Ocean State Computers
Wednesday, January 18,  at 6:30 pm at  Foster Public Library
Bob Gregory, President, Ocean State Computers, Smithfield, RI, will describe the most common computing mistakes leading to compute viruses.  His suggestions for remediation and prevention methods will be presented in non-technical language.
 
Needle Felting Gnomes!
Monday, January 23, 6 pm, at Tyler Free Library
We have made a number of animals in felt (seals, birds) and now we'll try our hand at a Gnome. We will use natural, dyed wool to make a charming creation.  Karen Mueller shows us the technique. Supplies provided and we ask you donate $5 materials fee or a donation of nonperishable food for the Foster food pantry.
 
Book Sale Coffee Hour
Saturday, January 28, from 1 to 3 pm, at Both Foster Public and Tyler Free Libraries
Come join us during these cold winter months in the libraries and warm up with a book and cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate.  Both libraries are holding Book Sale Coffee Hours on Saturday afternoon and having workshops at both locations on how to make a journal with a simple sewn binding to take home.  The journal craft is recommended for adults, teens and children over 4 years old.
Tyler Free Library's Wednesday Knitting Group
The group meets at 6:00 pm at Tyler. Knitting-- there has never been a better time to re-visit knitting or get started learning to knit for the first time. For more information about the Wednesday Knitting Group at Tyler call 397-7930.  New members welcome.  Katherine and Deb offer basic instruction when you call ahead.
Collection highlight: Magazines & Newspapers at the libraries. Did you know the libraries have new magazines to browse and to take out?  Find a new recipe, art or craft idea, review a travel destination or tap into news. And we now have daily delivery of The Providence Journal at Foster Public Library.

Join us each Wednesday at 10:00 am at Tyler Free Library as we read books, enjoy music and movement, play games, learn with our felt board, and make craft. Recommended ages 1 - 5 (siblings welcome). Look for our Monthly schedule of Activities posted in the libraries.

Friends of the Libraries of Foster
Annual February Library Lovers Calendar Raffle.  Tickets go on sale January 2 at both libraries. Prizes for the daily drawings in February include: Showcase Cinema movie tickets, The Gathering Place gift certificate, Thyme Farm basket, Peckam pottery, Amazon $ 25 gift card, Howard Hill Farm, LaGondola ride, Nickle Creek basket, and many more!  Tickets are $ 10 each and come with 28 chances to win.  All ticket proceeds are for library programming and to add new itemsto the library collections.
