MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT - Malcolm Dow

A very warm welcome to the Inverleith Newsletter from myself and the committee.  It is the tail end of the season, and we have just had a successful Club Championships.  As is our tradition, we finish the year with the Christmas Handicap.  This year we had 75 swimmers taking part, who all had a great time.  This is one of the events where the club's unique spirit shines through.

I also want to say welcome to our new swimmers and parent's.  Please take time to chat with other parents on the balcony and even consider volunteering to help.  We're always looking for poolside helpers and timekeepers so don't be shy about coming forward.  We need to supply a certain number of officials every time we enter a competition and the internal cups can only take place with the help of parents volunteering to time keep.  The club bears the cost of training courses but we need a certain number of people doing the course to make it viable to run one be it poolside helper or timekeeping so please let kathypicher@yahoo.co.uk know if you would like to help out while watching your child swim.  Officiating is the area where we are most looking for volunteers at the moment.  I can testify that timekeeping and judging externally really is OK!  I've always found the meets to be friendly, and more engaging when your're occupied.  It's not any harder than internally, and at the cost of wet feet you get a fantastic poolside view.

Whilst we are a competitive club, the primary aim is for the swimmers to enjoy themselves whilst working hard to improve their fitness and skills.  To maintain the high standards that we have set ourselves, we encourage feedback from parents and swimmers. So if there's anything that you'd like to see us do differently or have any new ideas, please either drop me a note or speak to any of us on the committee.

Finally, wishing you all a happy Christmas break, and looking forward to resuming the swimming in the New Year.

FIONA ANDERSON - HEAD COACH

INTER-COUNTIES MEET & LINCOLN VULCANS MEET - SHEFFIELD 22/23.10.16

Angus Allison was selected to compete for the East District in the Inter-counties Meet in Sheffield.  The East team did extremely well coming 6th overall our to 20 teams in division 1. Angus swam a PB in his event.

the same weekend swimmers took part in the Lincoln Vulcans Meet where Angus swam some fantastic races which took him to the top of the British ranking in the 200F/C & 200IM.  His times have now been overtaken but his name was up there.

Well done Angus.

EAST DISTRICT AGE GROUPS - ROUND 1 - 26/27.11.16

This was the first weekend of the ED Age Groups where the distance events are swum.  We had 8 individual swims on the Saturday and 11 on the Sunday.  We also entered several mixed relay teams.

Our swimmers managed some fantastic swims clocking up 18PB's. Angus Allison won gold in all four distance events and Ines Donald won bronze in the 88F/C.  Our relay teams swam very well to get a silver and 2 bronze medals.

swimming, only to have their record snatched away by a team from Midlothian in the next race.  Great effort.
Great swimming everyone.

SCOTTISH NATIONAL SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS - 9/10/11.12.16

Three Inverleith swimmers managed to qualify for this event Eve Lovell, Adele McDaid and Angus Allison. All three swimmers swam very well managing either to swim a PB or very close to one.

Angus achieved, what he just missed at the ED Age Groups, a Scottish Record for 13 year old's short course 400IM.  He brought the old record down by just under a second.  We are just waiting to have it confirmed  by Scottish Swimming.  Fantastic swimming Angus.

Well done to all three of our swimmers.

SWIM SHOP - JUDITH HETHERINGTON

Thanks to everyone who bought kit from the shop at the Club Champs.  It all helps to go toward club funds, Angie Bryce (Leo and Cara's Mum) will be taking over the shop at some point in the new year but in the meantime please continue to email me with any requests, judithhetherington@blueyonder.co.uk

This leads onto the fact that the Club Championships is always a great fund- raising event for the club and this year was no exception.  The cafe, toasties, tombola and raffle raised nearly £700, which is fantastic.  Our grateful thanks goes out to all of those who helped on the day and those who donated the rolls, toasties and brought, baked and bought!  Special mention to Shona, Anya and Alex on the toasties, Angela, Janet and Kate on the cafe, Kath, Angela and Katie for the rolls and Leanne for organising the tombola and raffle. Well done Everyone!
