Heartwarming news from Joe’s Market Garden
You might have noticed it raining quite heavily last week. On Thursday morning CERES farmers, Vince and Emily arrived at Joe’s Market Garden to find half their field underwater. After the floodwaters receded, leaving fences down, crops knocked over and Vince and Em pretty dispirited, people from the neighbourhood began spontaneously appearing. They came unasked to help Vince and Em clean up the mess and get the farm back on its feet.
Em reckons it’ll take about a month of restoring beds and replanting before they’ll be back on track again. But for now we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came down to lend a hand to get things right again at Joe’s Garden.
Farmer Michael Abelman says "It takes a farm to anchor a community" - it works the other way too.
