Lesson 2039: Which Books Belong in the Bible? Pt.7
Both Catholics and Protestants believe that Jesus is God. If He is God, then which books did Jesus say should be included?
Whatever Jesus said should settle the question.
John 14:26 the Holy Spirit… will teach you (apostles) all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.
Whatever the Apostles taught was Spirit-directed. Jesus said so. The New Testament is what the Apostles taught. Therefore, the New Testament is Spirit-directed.
Jesus promised that He would give the New Testament. The Apostles wrote it. The only place in the world you will find a record of the Apostles’ teaching is in the 27 books of the New Testament.
In the New Testament, we have every book that the Apostles wrote under God’s inspiration.
So when the New Testament ends, at the end of the Apostles’ teaching, we have the full and final written revelation of God. Jesus said, “I will lead you to all truth,” not just some.
The New Testament is the record of what was given to the Apostles; therefore, those 27 books finish the Bible.
Prov.30:5-6 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He reprove you and you be found a liar.
