Thanks for the Gift!
Now, How’s It Work?

You’ll use that shiny new gadget all the time—once you figure out how to turn it on! Good news: the Library’s your place for free technology help at all comfort levels.

Beginners. Don’t be shy—total newbies are welcome at Tech Days, our friendly one-on-one drop-in help sessions. Just bring your device and your questions about using it. Tech Days are also a great time to learn about how to enjoy the Library’s streaming and downloadable collections, setting up your own email or Facebook account, and more.

Advanced users. Once you know your way around your device, you might need more in-depth help. In addition to the great how-to items in the Library’s collection, the free self-paced video tutorials from Lynda.com are perfect for diving deeper with your new gadget.

Now it’s easy to see which Library online resources are compatible with your device too. From the “Compatible Device” pull-down menu on the Library’s Online Resources Page, just choose your device type and enjoy your options!

As always, Library staff are happy to assist you in finding the help that’s right for you—just ask. The world’s getting more and more high-tech—and thanks to your Library, so are you!

Snowed In… But Not Out in the Cold

When the Library closes due to bad weather, we put the word out in a few different places. Emergency closings are announced on the Library website’s Home page, over the phone, and through our Twitter account, as well as in local media like the Herald-Times website, WFIU, and WFHB.

Of course, a closed building doesn’t mean you’re frozen out of using your Library. Our Online Resources are available 24/7; from reference and educational tools to eBooks and eMagazines to streaming movies and music, you’re always just a few clicks from bringing the Library to you.

And remember—tuning into the outstanding programming on CATS (Community Access Television Services) is a great way to weather a snow day at home too.

Stay “Ever Green” This Winter

The colder months are a wonderful time to create a family sustainability plan for the year. The Library’s here to help with “Stay Green All Year Long,” our list of the latest items in the collection on making a more environmentally friendly household and community.

Thanks to a partnership with the Monroe County Energy Challenge, you can also see the energy used by the appliances in your home by borrowing a plug-in energy monitor from the Library.

This is the only planet we’ve got—let’s all do our part to protect it!
