Smalls/Mezzrow Newsletter - January 2nd, 2017

Dear Friends:

Another New Years - the 3rd for Mezzrow and the 23rd for Smalls! There was something gentle about this year's - no frenzy or craziness. Both clubs were at capacity but everyone was kind of mellow. John Marshall was at Smalls and Janis Seigel was at Mezzrow. and both provided the right kind of music, joyful and swinging and, above all, hopeful. The mood was warm and loving. As midnight rolled in, people embraced, shook hands and even shed a tear or two. It was an intimate gathering of friends and musicians, basking in the glowing lovely feeling of jazz - just the kind of healing New Year's Eve that we needed.

I look forward to a strong 2017 with a further commitment to bringing this music to the world - a further commitment to the idea of art and free thinking and the very best ideals that Jazz Music represents. I wish everyone a blessed and peaceful year and look forward to seeing everyone at the clubs.

My Best Wishes and Prayers for Peace in this challenging time.
