Things are off to a good start for 2011! Here's the latest news from my woodblock studio.

First Prints of the Year

The two prints shown here are my first two prints of 2011.

This week I completed the print above, Borders #3: Israel / Palestine Separation Barrier. This is the third print in an ongoing series about fences and walls erected at international borders. You can read more about it and see larger images by clicking here. The print was created using 5 shina plywood blocks and 20 hand rubbed layers of color on Japanese washi in an edition of 12. The map under the black figures is based on a satellite view of the West Bank at Qalqiliya, where the separation barrier has made the city into a peninsula, cut off from the rest of the Palestinian territories.

Blessings Kite

This print is my entry in the Drachen Foundation's Moku Hanga Kite Contest. The kites can be seen at the 6th Annual KIWA Exhibition in Kyoto in March, the 1st  International Mokuhanga Conference in Kyoto in June, and later at exhibits at Cullom Gallery and Mighty Tieton Arts in Washington state.
