Lesson 2068: Mary’s Song Pt.1, Luke 1:46-55
Mary's words in Luke 1:46-55 echo the song of Hannah 1000 years earlier, 1 Sam.2:1-10.
Just as Samuel’s mother dedicated him, Hannah's song inspired Mary’s to John’s mother.
Mary's song of joy, the Magnificat has been called the most revolutionary document in the world.
It includes 3 of God's great revolutions. First, God scatters the proud -- a moral revolution.
When we compare our lives to Christ's, we realize that pride in our "greatness" is empty.
By coming to Christ in humility, the shame of our sins and need for a savior is exposed.
Then we can rise to accomplish truly great works through God's power, and change the world.
Most humanitarian acts (charities, hospitals, shelters, medicines) resulted from Christians.
Second, God casts down the mighty and lifts up the humble -- a social revolution.
Christ is not impressed by social status symbols and the world's measures of success.
Attitudes that divide society into classes & races are not consistent with Christianity.
All human beings are worthy of love, and precious in the sight of God who created them.
