Awe, Wonder, Curiosity, Imagination and Play  

These are the hallmarks of the young child, these are the attributes that enable a human being to grow, survive, thrive, learn, create, contemplate and make it through the easiest and hardest of times in one's life.

The 3rd foundational point for bringing nature more deeply into our everyday lives: Fostering Awe, Wonder, Curiosity, and Imagination under the Umbrella of Play.

We live in a time where information is what equals Power. Information is what is deeply valued, hence from birth on parents are inundated with those things that can advance their child to be above all others with their Knowledge, for by having this they will survive and thrive in our world.

I have watched and seen over the years though that Knowledge in the young child simply detracts from the “true work of the young child,” learning through play. Information is not what sticks in the long term memory of a young child. What does stick is what they learn through all of their senses that are used during their simple yet profound play. These attributes are the building blocks to creating that great and admired CEO, the one who can create something out of nothing. The one that knows they can come up with an idea, have it fail, no problem, and just playfully create over and over and over again until they feel like they GOT IT!

This month in my blog, I offer you some simple games to see where your own Awe, Wonder, Curiosity and Imagination reside and how you can “Play,” even with your day-to-day chores.
