The First Church of Christ, Congregational in Bedford, 25 Great Road,
will host a West Virginia Mission Festival
Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, from 3 to 9 p.m.

This fun afternoon/evening benefit will feature Appalachian music and storytelling, a Southern-inspired buffet dinner,
cake walk, arts & crafts sale featuring handmade items from West Virginia, and a wide variety of children’s activities. A free-will donation will be collected at the door with a suggested minimum of $10 per person or $20 per family.
All proceeds from the West Virginia Mission Festival will fund First Church’s humanitarian mission work in West Virginia. This work has been going on for three years, and supports the work of a growing list of inspiring nonprofit partner organizations in West Virginia, including:
The goal of the Mission Festival is to raise money to help these organizations fight poverty through a wide variety of strategies, including home repairs and improvements, after-school education programs, and art and music programs to inspire young minds.

Appalachian Music & Storytelling
One of the premier highlights of the First Church Mission Fair will be live Appalachian music and storytelling about West Virginia culture and the challenging economic environment citizens are facing today. It will also focus on the opportunities available for mission work as partners in a shared journey to bring hope and optimism back to a naturally beautiful and amazing part of our country.
The Mission Festival’s music program will feature four active musicians from West Virginia, including Tim Mainland and Maggie Jusiel (board members of the
Appalachian South Folklife Center in Pipestem Knob, WV), and Lori McKinney and Robert Blankenship, owners of the RiffRaff Arts Collective in Princeton, WV.
Beginning at 4 p.m., the musical program will continue until 8 p.m. in two sets. The first musical set will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., and will repeat from 6 to 8 p.m.

Southern-Style Buffet Dinner
Come sample the great cooking of our First Church chefs and listen to some great music while you enjoy your dinner! A delicious dinner buffet featuring Southern-style food will be available, cost is $15 for adults and $5 for youth (18 and under).

Join Our Festival Environment
The First Church West Virginia Mission Festival will also include a variety of fun-filled activities for children and the young at heart; an Appalachian Cake Walk (think musical chairs – with cakes!); and an Arts & Crafts room where folks can purchase items from West Virginia and local artists.  Children’s activities are included with the free-will door donation. Raffle tickets will be sold separately for the Cake Walk, and Arts and Crafts items will be priced and sold separately.

For more information about First Church Bedford’s West Virginia Mission Festival, call the church office, 781-275-7951, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
