Applications due January 13, 2017 for WSBA Rule-Drafting Task Force
The Washington State Bar Association is seeking a lawyer with experience litigating in Superior and/or District Court in Washington to serve on a rule-drafting Task Force. The Task Force was created by the Bar’s Board of Governors in November 2016 to draft amendments to the Washington Civil Rules for eventual submission to the Supreme Court. The Board of Governors established the Task Force after considering and voting on some of the recommendations submitted by an earlier group, the Escalating Costs of Civil Litigation Task Force (ECCL).
The rule-drafting Task Force will meet approximately once per month, with a final report to the Board of Governors due in May 2018. Members will be divided into subcommittees established by the Chair. Applicants should have a strong interest in rule drafting and will be expected to attend all meetings. The Task Force aims to be as diverse as possible and will include civil trial lawyers with experience representing plaintiffs and defendants, Superior and District Court Judges, representatives from the Access to Justice community and others. It will be chaired by former Board of Governors member Ken Masters. If interested in serving, please send a resume and cover letter explaining why you are interested to Kevin Bank, WSBA Assistant General Counsel at kevinb@wsba.org. Applications must be submitted as soon as possible but no later than January 13, 2017. More information on the ECCL task force recommendations can be found at http://www.wsba.org/Legal-Community/Committees-Boards-and-Other-Groups/Escalating-Cost-of-Civil-Litigation-Task-Force.
