Dear woodturning friend,

Travels this Spring have already brought me to chilly Norway and foggy Denmark on a unique weekend woodturning cruise, and to Axminster, a charming part of Devon in England.

Next stop - Australia's TurnFest in Brisbane at the end of March. And then onto New Zealand's south and north Islands - Gore, Timaru, North Canterbury, Nelson, Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, Geyserland, Tauranga, Waikato, Hamilton, South Auckland, Auckland, North Shore. Follow me on facebook - I will be taking photos and posting them when I can.

Returning to Europe I will teach at DNS Germany in early May.  Then off to the USA and the Summer will see me in Seattle, San Diego, Kansas for the AAW Symposium and Craft Supplies in Utah. I return home to Ireland for lots of private classes and masterclasses over July, August and early September.

Mid-September I head back to the USA, this time to Atlanta, Minneapolis/St Paul and the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Indiana.

The late Autumn sees me return to Denmark and Norway. Phew!

Cornelia will be keeping the home fires burning, the website whirring and the online and phone orders fulfilled, so do keep in touch with us.

I am thoroughly looking forward to meeting old pals at these events and making new woodturning friends. I am particularly happy to welcome many of you to Ireland to turn with me in my own workshop.

PRIVATE TUITION
Normally on a week-day and very popular for those who wish to have intense one-to-one tuition, iron out problems they are having and improve their technique. Classes and vouchers available for weekday classes.

LEVEL 1
Introduction to turning for beginners (max in the class is 7) or for those who have not visited the lathe for a few years and want to get 'back to basics'. Next classes April 29th and May 27th.

LEVEL 2
Group 'follow-on' classes are also run on a Saturday,  aimed at people who have already attended a Level 1 class, want to make a larger wooden bowl and focus on sharpening. Let us know if you would like a level 2 class and we will organise for a small group between visits overseas!

INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED CLASS
Our three day masterclass is the perfect opportunity to work with my bowl blanks which are used in production, so you get to experience taking a tree from a log through to the finished piece. This class is aimed at intermediate turners who want to refine technique, perfect sharpening and work on some wonderful native wood both seasoned and unseasoned. The next 3-day class is 8,9,10 November 2017. Our masterclasses in 2018 are filling fast, so if you are considering one, let us know!
TIP for March

Having learned the hard way, this is a Cautionary Tale.

When you purchase a new faceplate or chuck for your lathe it is always worth checking to see if there is any swarf left over in the thread after the machining process and also check that the new thread is correctly formed.

It is possible to do a lot of damage to the lathe thread if the faceplate or chuck is forced onto the machine with these defects.

Make sure to inspect the thread and prepare it accordingly. If the accessory does not screw on freely by hand, never force it with a lever.
