FOURTH ANNUAL SALON "THE KITCHEN REVUE"

(St Paul, MN) – The Musical Offering, the Twin Cities’ finest and longest continually-performing chamber ensemble, presents its annual food and wine event this year entitled "The Kitchen Revue" on Sunday, February 26th at Sundin Music Hall on the campus of Hamline University.

Modeled after a more historically accurate concert experience, “The Kitchen Revue” combines the best of French music and cuisine similar to a Parisian style Salon. The program features a variety of music for winds, strings, and piano performed by top musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra, and closes with Martinů’s La Revue de Cuisine – a lighthearted ballet about the love, lust, and passions of kitchen utensils.

Sunday's concert ($50, all inclusive) starts at 3:00pm and includes French appetizers, drinks, and desserts. Music by composers Lili Boulanger, Anton Reicha, George Enescu, and Bohuslav Martinů explore this season's focus on migrant musicians and their mentors drawn together in Paris.
  • Sundin Music Hall is ADA compliant and is located at 1531 Hewitt Avenue in St. Paul (55104) on the campus of Hamline University. Free parking is available one half-block east. The Hamline campus is a stop on the new A Line rapid bus route and is located just blocks north of the Metro Transit Green Line.
  • The Musical Offering's ensemble is composed of the finest professional musicians in the Twin Cities. The ensemble was founded in 1971, and takes its name from a favorite piece by J.S. Bach.
  • This seasons theme "Émigres and Mentors" shines a light on the music of women and men who traveled to Paris as migrants. Featured composers include Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Dvorak, Prokofiev, Boulanger, Milhaud, and Copland, as well as many lesser known composers. Some of the most recognizable composers may not be as readily identified as immigrants, yet their music bares the fruit of wonderful cultural intersections. The 2016-2017 season is available online. Please contact us for comments from our artistic directors about how our season's focus interfaces with the current political climate; we would be happy to set up the interview.
  • The Musical Offering is known for interactions between audience, music, and musicians. The Kitchen Revue offers an opportunity for audience and musicians to interact and get to know one another over food and drink.
  •  TMO is also celebrating the $10,000 Metropolitan Regional Arts Council grant that was recently awarded to the ensemble. The grant will help TMO double its programming over the next year as it continues to be a leader and innovator amongst chamber music groups for both its use of technology and its socially-relevant musical themes.
  • Tickets are on sale today for our final concert featuring Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring in its original instrumentation for 16 musicians on April 23rd. Concerts occur on Sundays at 3:00pm; all seats general admission.
  • Photos of our ensemble can be found in this Google Drive folder.
