Congratulations on your retirement Charisse!

This term we bid a fond farewell to our Administrator Charisse who has been a valued member of the Escare family for eight and a half years.  Charisse has also fulfilled a shared Receptionist role at Esperance Lotteries House for even longer.

Charisse and her husband Brian, who also retired recently, have much to look forward to in the next chapter of their lives.

Wishing you every happiness and thank you, Charisse, for everything you have done for Escare, the staff, management and our community of families, individuals, youth and children.

We will miss you!

Later this month we will welcome Renae Rance who will take up the role of Administrator (Finance).  We look forward to your valuable input to the team Renae!

Kayelene facilitates school cyber safety education from pre-primary to Year 12 and delivers cyber safety workshops for parents and carers. The Early Years Network has ebbed and flowed for many years in Esperance with a break for nearly two years before Escare Incorporated saw value in the network so with the opportunity to receive support from the Connecting Early Years Network team, in early 2016, the Esperance Early Years Network launched again.
Who is in our Network
Our priority as a group was to make sure the network was sustainable and so apart from recruiting individual community members we focused on organisations as a whole and encouraged them to have the network as a part of a role in their service.  We also focused on having a diverse group including services from not-for-profit, childcare/education, health and local government sectors.  We are also lucky enough to have a representative from a newly formed group, Esperance Aboriginal and Community Development group.
Some of what we have achieved so far
Early Years Open Day - This was held at the Esperance Play Group facilities.  Play Group WA and Escare provided fun activities for the children and child services including; Community Health, Child Care Centres, Better Beginnings, One & All Inclusion, Escare Family and Community Service and Play Group WA held stalls where attendees could have a chat and source information about services available in the community.
Face Book page - established to promote events, workshops and programs that will strengthen and connect families and children in the Esperance region. It also provides information and resources and gives the community an opportunity to promote events and provide or seek information.
Children’s Week event - The network collaborated with Escare Family and Community Service to hold a free Children’s Week activity at the Community Markets.  Included were activities promoting movement, information, giveaways and healthy food.
Community Resource Box - packed with information about the Early Years including; service information, resources for parents on numerous topics, current groups/workshops offered and community contacts.  The box is used for events in the community or promotion in organisations.  It has already been used several times for events such as; Parent nights in schools, community events like Children’s week and displays in front offices.  The box is updated on a regular basis.
Looking Forward
In 2017 the network plan to promote the Early Years through more community events and are in the process of planning a Nature Play in the Park event and looking at the Paint the Town Red community initiative.  We also plan to have more interaction with our Local Government and are hopeful that the Local Government Strategy developed by the Connecting Early Years Networks team can assist.

The Esperance Early Years Network would like to wish everyone a fantastic 2017.

Yarning Quiet Ways

Teaching kids to have strong, safe and healthy relationships

Did you know that kids who talk to their mums and dads about sex and relationships:

  • Tend to start having sex later
  • Are more likely to be safe when they do have sex.

Yarning Quiet Ways is a book produced by the Department of Health WA after Aboriginal parents and carers said that they wanted a book to help them talk to their kids about strong, safe and respectful relationships.
If you would like to hear more about this book, or would like a copy, the WA Goldfields Public Health Unit is holding a meeting to discuss how to talk to your kids about these things.
