Totally Transfers !
a new on-line art workshop by Jacqueline Sullivan

I love image transfers!  Sometimes using them as the focal image in a collage and other times just to add a little extra to an art piece. An image transfer is, to put it simply, the act of transferring an image from one source to another. Depending upon what material you are wanting to transfer onto will determine what type of transfer method you choose to use.

In this one month on-line class, we will explore many ways to add image transfers to paper, wood and fabric. Transfers are transparent, allowing you to layer images and let the surface design show through. The transferred image often is a more integral part of the final work because of its transparency. Depending on the method, some transfers create a lovely aged and distressed image due to the natural imperfection of the technique.

Totally Transfers ! is a four session online art workshop with lessons and projects designed by Jacqueline. Each session will feature one to two different techniques and the last session will show how to build a collage using the processes learned in the first three sessions.  Jacqueline will explain in easy to understand language the differences and best uses for each of the transfer techniques covered.

Lessons and critiques will be delivered via videos and handouts on a private Facebook page. Students will have access to the videos on Vimeo for one year using the assigned password. You will be able to download them to your own computer beginning with the first class and then any time during the next 12 months. [note: access will expire after 1 year]

This class is appropriate for students of all levels who wish to explore several image transfer methods for use in collages, journals and painting.

In This Workshop You Will Learn:
  • 5 different methods for transferring images
  • how to make new photo copies look like antique papers
  • how to make a new piece of wood look like an old tin type photo
  • how to make a photo or drawing look like an “old fresco”
  • what are the best acrylic mediums for transfers
  • how to choose imagery for transfers
  • when to use inkjet and when to use laser copies

Class Format:
4 weekly videos will be delivered through Facebook and Vimeo. Students will be able to download videos for their personal use beginning with the first class session. Access to the videos is password protected and  are accessible for one year using the password provided to each enrolled student. Videos will be released weekly: February 7, 14, 21, 28.  [every Tuesday @ 7pm EST] and you will be able to watch them at any time after release. There will be PDF’s of all projects in the files on Facebook and PDF’s of image files will also be available for download.

Please Note: This class is NOT live. It is a self-paced learning workshop using a Facebook group page as a "virtual classroom".  You must “friend” Jacqueline on Facebook in order to be added to the private Facebook group.

Students may watch the videos at any time. Class projects will be critiqued by Jacqueline during the class time (Feb 7 - 28, 2017). After that time, students will still have access to all class materials but instructor critiques and class sharing will not be available. Critiques and questions from the instructor may be available via special arrangements after the class sessions are over.

Jacqueline Sullivan
in her own words....

Mixed media, acrylic paints, calligraphy, bookbinding, and fiber arts - I have loved them all since I first discovered each medium. I have a degree in graphic design and worked for many years as a publication, marketing and advertising designer as a way to make a living but my passion has always been with color and paint, no matter what the surface.  Personal artistic development has been a lifeline as I work my way through the challenges life has brought. My mixed media, book art, calligraphic and acrylic work has been shown in galleries and top juried art fairs nationwide. I believe that asking “what if?” and keeping a spirit of adventure and discovery is important as I follow my creative path and attempt to make something original. I love experimenting with texture, layers, marks, paint and dyes. I'm proud to be a Certified Teaching Artist™  for Golden Paints.
