A guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile and moderation 2017


The EYFS profile was due to become non-statutory from September 2016. The DfE has now confirmed that the EYFS profile will remain statutory for the 2016 to 2017 and 2017 to 2018 academic years.

Results of consultation on cutting red tape

In December the government published the results of its consultation on cutting red tape in childcare.

It identified several key areas where red tape seemed to be hampering the ability of childcare providers to operate efficiently, and it has committed to addressing these.

New in the Toolkit


Over the past few months we've added some great new resources to our early education toolkit.
We have revamped the Safeguarding section with additional resources, and an editable version of our Venn diagram  to show children in 1 or more vulnerable groups.

Early Years National Funding Formula 2017-18 Consultation


We are conducting a consultation on the Early Years National Funding Formula 2017-18 and your input would be appreciated.

This local consultation has been launched to help establish some principles about Oxfordshire’s EYNFF. The consultation has been sent invite only to all EY providers and will close on 22 January 2017. If you want to participate and haven't received an invite please email us at: early.years@oxfordshire.gov.uk

The principles outlined in this consultation will affect the way your school/establishment is funded from April 2017.

With our Birth to Three Conference less than a month away we can announce that there will be a prize draw for 4 of our Home Learning Boxes: Resources to support home learning - ‘Learn with Books’ activity box
‘Learn with Books’ activity box has been created as a strategy to support parents/carers with ideas and activities in order to enhance their child’s early learning at home. The box is themed around 2 story books and uses simple ideas for activities and inexpensive resources found around home. It is based to support children’s development and learning in the three prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (2014): communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development, and also cross-references to specific areas of learning.

Effective Use of the Early Years Pupil Premium


The Pre-school Learning Alliance and EduCare are delighted to share their new free online learning programme on Effective Use of the Early Years Pupil Premium with Alliance members.
This programme will help you understand:
  • the background to the Early Years Pupil Premium
  • the criteria for eligibility
  • effective and imaginative ways the money can be used
  • how Ofsted inspect effective use
  • how to demonstrate to Ofsted and other stakeholders that the money is
  • being used effectively.
This brand new programme is free to every Alliance member.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding children in sport activities


Following the disclosures by Andy Woodward, Steve Walters and Paul Stewart about the abuse they suffered as young footballers, the importance of effective policies and procedures has once again being brought into sharp focus. It's important to remember that the abuse of children by adults they trust can occur in any context.
