Welcome to our January email newsletter...

Gill DixonHello <<First Name>>,

A very Happy New Year to you all!

2017 promises to be a busy year for Baildon and the Town Council. We are still on course to formally begin our partnership to run Baildon Library, probably in June this year, and you will hear about how you can get involved in future newsletters.

Also, this week sees the consultation by Bradford Council on the future of Ian Clough Hall  - this Wednesday 18th from 5pm - see below for more information. I hope you will find time to give your views.

There are a host of other events and activities coming up, not least the Tour de Yorkshire on Sunday 30th April, which comes right through Baildon. I am delighted to see that more of you are now receiving our newsletter to your inbox, and also liking our Facebook page, the numbers are going up steadily.  Good communication is a community benefit and helps everyone, so please do your bit to help us to reach out further.

Finally, I am pleased to report that we have appointed a new Town Clerk. Our current Clerk Tom Ferry will be retiring in March of this year, and just before Christmas we appointed Louanna Winch from West Yorkshire Police, who will start with us on March 6th. I hope to have a picture of her for the next newsletter, and I am sure everyone will give her a warm Baildon welcome when she starts.

Have a great start to 2017!

Gill Dixon
Chair of Baildon Town Council

P.S. Don't forget there is no Farmers Market in January. The next one is February 25th.
NEWS AND EVENTS IN JANUARY 2017
Tour de Yorkshire
Monday 16th January: TOUR DE YORKSHIRE MEETING
On Sunday 30th April the Tour de Yorkshire will pass through Baildon for 2.5 miles along Otley Road. The Town Council has agreed to support a Baildon Welcomes the Tour de Yorkshire working group to support all the efforts of Baildon residents and businesses who want to get involved.

The first meeting will be this Monday at 7.30pm at the Halfway House pub on Otley Road. If you are interested in contributing ideas or getting involved, please come along!

The aim is to help all the businesses along Otley road and nearby, with local residents, to put on a great display and a great welcome! It's the sort of thing Baildon does really well and we hope this will really take off if you all get involved! The Town Council's role will be to facilitate and support rather than running events itself, and the group will be an informal one open to all.

IMPROVEMENTS TO PATH ON BAILDON BANK
Over the years, this well-used path has been damaged by vandalism and erosion. Baildon Town Council is delighted to announce that its Environment Committee has agreed to allocate £4000 towards repairs. Working with Bradford Council, this should mean that improvements can be made during 2017.
MAKE YOUR VIEWS KNOWN ON IAN CLOUGH HALL
Baildon Town Council urges residents of Baildon to make their views known on the future of Ian Clough Hall.

It is impossible to consider the future of the Ian Clough Hall without careful consideration of the impact on Baildon library.

Baildon Town Council is fully alert to this issue and its importance for Baildon. We hope to gather information during 2017 and identify a range of options for Ian Clough Hall. At that point, BTC would consult residents and invite views on the way forward.

Bradford Council has signed a Service Level Agreement with Baildon Town Council to jointly provide the library service in Baildon until April 2020. This  includes a clear statement of heads of terms for lease of the current library building until 2020.

In addition, Baildon Town Council has already formally registered the hall as an asset of community value. In our view, any discussions about the future of the hall must take place in the context of this legal agreement, which runs until 2020.

This is a complex issue, with many options to consider. For example, is the large car park considered to be part of Ian Clough Hall? Currently Baildon Town Council does not have the basic information which would underpin any assessment of future options. Hence, BTC has not yet formed a view as to whether it would be better for Baildon to keep the current hall (whoever runs it) or to redevelop the site.

We urge residents to engage in the consultation process and give their views about the Ian Clough Hall and its importance for Baildon (see consultation event below).

Saturday 4th February:
COMEDY NIGHT

Why not come along to a fundraising comedy night at Baildon Methodist Church with acclaimed comedian Andy Kind?

Andy is a comedian of national repute. He came to perform in Baildon two years ago and went down a storm. Those of us who attended laughed from start to finish.

This event takes place on Saturday 4th February at 7.30pm. It will be good, clean fun but probably not appeal to under 14s.
Tickets at £8 can be purchased from Wesleys Café or by emailing blt@baildonmethodists.org. Proceeds will go to Wesleys building project to replace the Marley Hut with a new, environmentally sustainable building for community use.
