Bee keeping 101 with Superior Beekeeping Club
January 28th - 10:30 am - Peter White Public Library

If you are thinking about getting into beekeeping this year, now is the time to start preparing.  Join the Superior Beekeeping Club on January 28th from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm downstairs in the Peter White Public Library, in the Marquette Arts and Culture Center.  They will discuss roles and life cycles of a honeybee and the colony as well as helping you get a grasp on what you will need to buy prior to the arrival of your honeybees.  (Note: bee ordering will not take place at this class, but at a later date.)

MOSES Ticket Giveaway

The Midwest Organic and and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) Organic Farming Conference will be held in La Crosse, Wisconsin February 23-25th.  The UP Research and Extension Center (UPREC) has an additional ticket to this event which they are giving away via random drawing.  If you would like to enter for a chance to attend the MOSES conference free of charge visit this website and enter your name.  The winner will be notified via email by January 30th and arrangements to accept the tickets will be made at that same time.

Donating Excess Produce

For farmers and gardeners who’d like to donate produce to food pantries – where do you start? The purpose of this document is to provide a quick reference guide to the organizations that have the facilities and capacity to accept large fresh produce donations in the Marquette area. The information compiled here is a starting point created by MSU Extension Intern Joe Snowaert for Michigan State University Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center as part of his involvement in food systems development and food waste elimination this past summer.
