EMPHN seeks Expressions Of Interest (EOIs) For GP Advisory Roles
Eastern Melbourne PHN (EMPHN) is seeking EOIs for four general practitioner (GP) advisory roles.
Advisors will provide clinical insight into program development and system re-design. They will support clinical engagement across the region and ensure GPs are represented in EMPHN decision processes.
GPs appointed to these roles will be remunerated for their time.
Expressions of interest are sought for the below roles:
1. GP Advisor – Cancer
2. GP Advisor – Immunisation
3. GP Representative – Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Care Collaborative Governance Group
4. GP Representative – Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Care Collaborative Working Groups

EMPHN Online Tender Portal Now Live
EMPHN has launched its online portal for tender applications on its website.
The portal uses TenderSearch software and is a central location for accessing tender documents, submitting applications and finding information about the available tenders.
Temporary Extension To ePIP
For those practices registered for the Practice Incentives Program eHealth Incentive (ePIP), this is a reminder about the Temporary Amendment of the Requirements for the PIP eHealth Incentive as circulated early October.
Instead of being required to meet a quota by the end of each quarter, the requirement was changed so that practices can have until 31 January 2017 to reach the quota for all three quarters. From February 2017 onwards, the requirement will revert to the ongoing quarterly deadline. Read more
Best Practice Premier (LAVA) Update In Relation To Shared Health Summaries
A new report has been added to the LAVA version of Best Practice in the Management Report List.
This new report shows how many Shared Health summaries have been uploaded and is aimed at assisting practices with the Incentive program for My Health Record.
Victorian eReferral Program – Opportunities Available To Be Involved
Since November 2016, Eastern Melbourne PHN has been inviting general practices to participate in an electronic referral pilot project that will run from early February until 30 June 2017.
This exciting project will see the implementation of two end-to-end eReferral solutions that can exchange eReferrals between general practice and Eastern Health and/or Austin Health, as well as Banyule Community Health and/or Carrington Health.

Healthpathways Melbourne's Work On Lower Back Pain Leads To End Of Year High
HealthPathways Melbourne and the staff at North Western Melbourne and Eastern Melbourne PHNs have ended 2016 on a high thanks to an award linked to their work on the Lower Back Pain pathway.
The team have been celebrating after the Back Pain Assessment and Management Service (BAMS) program, a collaboration between The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), Merri Health, cohealth and North Western Melbourne PHN won an award at the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards on December 12.
Short-Term Focused Psychological Strategies, also known as Access To Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS), last year delivered services to over 3000 people. EMPHN continues to deliver this program with 140 contracted providers working individually and within community based organisations.
These clinicians have a significant collective skill set and can deliver these services in 22 languages other than English. They can deliver services to a diverse population from various cultural backgrounds with a range of presenting issues.

APNA Transition to Practice Pilot Program
Australian Primary Nurses Association’s (APNA) Transition to Practice Pilot Program is a 12 month transition support program which aims to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of nurses commencing work in primary health care.
APNA are seeking nurses, new or experienced, who work in aged care, community health, general practice or another area of primary health care.
Applications for tranche two of APNA’s Transition to Practice Pilot Program open now until 23 December. Read more here
Over-The-Counter Codeine Up-Scheduled
Schedule Two and Schedule Three entries for codeine will be deleted from the Therapeutic Goods Administration Poisons Standard from 1 February 2018.
Entries in Schedules Four and Eight will be amended to reflect this outcome.
This means that all medicines containing codeine (analgesics, antitussives, cold/sinus products) will be available on prescription only.

Divers given green light - ADS releases new position statement on diabetes and diving
The Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) has published a new position statement on diving for people with insulin-requiring diabetes.
The ADS recognises that people with well-controlled diabetes are able to participate safely in recreational diving with the appropriate preparation, experience and adherence to the new recommendations.
The new position statement provides healthcare professionals with criteria to assist them in determining a person's suitability to dive and protocols to ensure they dive safely.
