Introduction

Welcome to the sixth edition of the newsletter of the Metabolism of Cities website. These are busy times for our team. We have successfully finished our first Stakeholders Initiative (SI) around Data Visualization (Oct-Dec 2016) and have now launched a new SI around the creation of a Global Urban Metabolism Dataset (Jan-Mar 2017). The Urban Metabolism Masterclasses have started, and we have made several upgrades to our website. Read more about all this in this newsletter.

Remember, our website is an open source initiative that is open to contribution by anyone. Feel free to share your thoughts and be in touch if you want to help out improving our website! Also make sure to Follow us on Twitter!

Urban metabolism masterclasses

As part of our Stakeholders Initiative, Metabolism of Cities is co-organising (with OVAM, .Fabric, Vlaamse Milieumaatschappij (VMM/MIRA), and Team Vlaams Bouwmeester) three masterclasses on urban metabolism. The first class has taken place in December, and two more will soon commence.

Click here to view a video report of the first class, including a presentation by our team member Aristide Athanassiadis.

For more information on the masterclasses click here.

Video Section

We now have a video section at the Metabolism of Cities website! There are 19 videos related to urban metabolism, and we invite you to send us your favorite video so we can continue expanding this section.

Call for assistance

There are more things than the ones we can do ourselves! Why don't you join our efforts and help us make useful tools and information around urban metabolism available to the public! Here are a couple items on our wish list where we can use your support:
  • Extracting data from publications and adding it to our global urban metabolism dataset.
  • Creation of a list of relevant journals, and preferably some background information about what kind of urban metabolism publications are covered there.
  • Revision of our collections by an expert and support adding missing publications.
  • Testing and feedback of our OMAT tool, especially for use that differs from urban Eurostat-based MFAs
Also feel free to come up with other improvements for our website. Constructive criticism is always welcome! You can view our full wish list here: Metabolism of Cities Wishlist.
