DECEMBER 2016/JANUARY 2017
From your ADEPT President

Happy New Year, and I trust you all had a good Christmas break.

The next big ADEPT event is the Annual Dinner, kindly sponsored by Ringway Infrastructure. This 'Black Tie' event is at The Royal Horseguards Hotel, One Whitehall Place, London on Thursday 26 January 2017.  This offers a great opportunity to meet the ADEPT Leadership Team (more on this below), and to network with colleagues and partners. I do hope you can attend; we’ve got some great guests coming along from key government departments and agencies, professional bodies and our corporate partners. I’m delighted to announce that our after dinner speaker is Barry Cryer OBE, the writer, comedian and actor.

I wanted to draw your attention to some governance changes. As you know, we operate our governance through the President’s Team and then a separate Management Board. Having discussed this with both boards, I believe it is no longer appropriate to have this separation.  The President’s Team and the Management Board have therefore been merged, to provide a single ADEPT Leadership Team. It will require a constitutional change and a merger of each board’s terms of reference, which we will present at the next available General Meeting.

In addition, the President’s Team discussed the current boundaries of the Sub-National Boards and whether, in light of devolution/combined authorities/SNTBs, they might need tweaking so they are more reflective of new local authority shared partnerships and geographies. I’ve asked the chairs of the Sub-National Boards to seek feedback next time you meet; please feel free to write to me direct too.

I hope you’ll agree these are important steps to move ADEPT into a modern, forward thinking association.

Rupert Clubb
ADEPT President

An introduction to the Transport Data Initiative
The defining feature of the 21st century world is interconnectedness. To take advantage of the opportunities of the digital age, local authorities must themselves become more interconnected in policymaking, information sharing and service delivery. The Transport Data Initiative, a quarterly, local authority-led forum supported by industry players, is attempting to make this happen. To read more click here.
