Five New Year's Resolutions for CPD for your staff

Despite the cold and dark, January can be a good time to reflect and plan for the rest of the academic year. Don't miss some fantastic ideas from Bridget Clay at TDT to boost your CPD in 2017.  She has created three lists of new year's resolutions - one for senior leaders, one for middle leaders and one for teachers, in the latest edition of SecEd.

Bridging the Recruitment Gap

With almost one in three newly qualified teachers leaving the profession, how can schools retain their staff and support teachers to thrive in the workplace?

In the latest edition of Education Executive, David Weston takes research from LMKco and nfer and urges schools to treat their teachers as respected professionals, offering practical advice to school leaders concerned about bridging the recruitment gap.

Three ways CPD can support vulnerable learners

Earlier this week, we held a joint conference with the National Education Trust at Swiss Cottage school, 'Developing Teaching to Meet the Needs of Vulnerable Learners'. Look back at some fantastic insights on SEND CPD from Marc Rowland, Margaret Mulholland and more on Twitter using the event hashtag #NETTDT

Here TDT's David Weston blogs for NET about how improving the way we support teachers can make a real difference for our most vulnerable pupils.

Schools, we want your feedback on TDT Advisor!

TDT and Oliver Wyman are looking to improve the service provided by TDT Advisor by finding out more about your school's approach to CPD. How do you think our 'trip advisor for CPD' platform could provide the most use and value to your school?

We would greatly value your thoughts in a short online questionnaire:

Engage more with research

If one of your CPD resolutions for this year is to champion research and pursue evidence based-practice in your context, then this Schools Week article from Stuart Kime, Director of Evidence-Based Education, is a great place to start.

Look out for the mention of TDT Network member school, Huntingdon School, as Kime expresses his enthusiasm for EEF's Research Schools project, of which Huntingdon is one of the first five UK regional hubs.

Training teachers: Obstacles and opportunities in 2017

Alex Quigley, blogger and author of 'The Confident Teacher', encourages us to consider teacher training in the year ahead, not as "an added burden to workload or ticking off boxes for performance management purposes but instead, a meaningful way to share our resources and lower the burden of all recreating our own resources and approaches to the new curriculum."

Read more here about what school leaders and teachers can do to achieve great training.
